I have come to a surprising conclusion.

Abusive relationships are glorified with the introduction of a beautiful supernatural being who is controlling, forces herself into the protagonist's life, creeps on him in his sleep, tries to chase away his female friends, and is overall emotionally manipulative. But it's okay, because she's hot and because there are Other Supernatural Beings, both like her and not like her, but she is the only Good One (for a given value of Good) and Protecting Him, which also gives her free license to be a stalker.
