What was Saki planning to do all by herself anyway? The only reason she agreed was because Tad offered to stay and keep an eye on things. But a few hours later, he showed up next

[Considering he lives next to the Smith's, and had been heading back to his house to pick up some extra provisions, sitting on top of his awesome spider mech as it slowly treaded down the street, he takes notice of Mindy pretty quickly. And just stops, standing up on top of the mech and staring bewildered at the little girl.]

Mindy? What are you doing?

[She's actually pretty happy to see him. It makes everything seem a little less scary. Also his robot is really cool.]

I was just waiting for someone. What are you doing?

[He is the one in the robot, after all. Maybe he was going on some kind of neat mission. A robot mission.]

You're waiting for someone outside the Smith house? Don't you know how dangerous that is?

[No, he's not worried, he doesn't want you getting hurt or something stupid and come crying SHUT UP and yes. His robot is cool. He'd talk about it all day if he had the chance.]

I'm just out getting some stuff before I head back to base.

[Investigate is a very big and impressive word and she's clearly pleased to be using it.]

And how, exactly, did you plan to "investigate" her?

[He's not as worried as most people would be, because he has no clue who Tad is, so it doesn't concern him. But if he could get Mindy in trouble.]

...Mindy...I dunno if...Tad might have gotten REALLY hurt in there...
