Aug 15, 2010 20:32

[Mindy is standing in front of the dreaded post office, staring at it nervously. In one hand, she's holding a bag full of box tops. In her other hand is her regain list. It reads as follows:

5 box tops: patches
10 box tops: tea set
50 box tops: Pocketwatch
100 box tops: Spirit Sight
200 box tops: Richard Pemberton

She's heard about how scary the post ( Read more... )

[It's safe to say Thorkell will be lurking around the post office all week, so when he spots Mindy from his spot on a bench, he tilts his head. Another kid?]

[Another kid indeed. Mindy is only six and probably has no business going in there. But she wants her friends back. There is also a ghost with her, if he can see that sort of thing. Right now she's staring at the ground in front of her and chewing her lower lip nervously.]

....There's blood on the sidewalk too.

... People have been losin' arms and legs, little one. Of course there's gonna be blood on the sidewalk. Don't add yers to it.

[He frowns slightly--Something doesn't feel quite right around the child, but he can't quite put his thumb on it. It's almost as if he's being watched.]

But they can give me back something real important.

Maybe it's worth an arm...

[Margot's hanging around the post office in her beat up car. She's there to ferry people to and from the hospital if they need it, and an eyebrow goes up when she spots the kid.

Isn't that Netherlands' daughter? What the heck is she doing down here?]

Don't even think about it, kid.

[She looks up at Margot sadly.]

I know it's scary, but....there's something really important that I need to get back.

No offense, but there's nothing so important to injure yourself like that over.

[Such a hypocrite, but.]

Why don't you go home? This isn't a good place for someone your age.

You don't know that! Some things are really really really important.

I'm old enough to decide for myself.

[Prussia's chilling outside the post office, taking notes on who's coming out with what injuries - he's going to need to know how much the fighting force here has been decimated by. He hasn't bothered to stop anyone from going in; by now, everyone should know about the risk they're taking, and he's not exactly one to lecture people about caution. He took the same chance, after all.

Still, there is no way in hell he's letting Mindy go in there.]

Not on your life, Mindy. Whatever it is you're trying to get back, it's not worth it.

But....Mr. Prussia....

[Her eyes start tearing up.]

It is worth it. It's something real important.

D-don't cry! Crying's for weaklings! Come on, man up!

And I'm not going to just sit by and watch you lose an eye or worse! If it's that important, we'll just have to work even harder to get out of this town so you can see it again! Don't fall for their trap! [S-so hypocritical]

Well.... an eye would be bad.

[That would render the whole thing kind of pointless from her perspective.]

But, maybe an arm.... It might be worth it. Do you really think we could go home someday? And I'll see them again?

[Makes a beeline for the child when she spots her. Though she now has the abilities (at the cost of her left arm and most of her hair) to heal her should she choose make a bargain with the Postman, Garnet would much rather talk her out of going in. She's seen enough injured people today.] Wait! Please don't go in there.

M-Mindy . . . Please don't . . .

[Lucas looks exhausted and blood-spattered. He is, at this point, nearly completely drained of PSI, but he's still hovering around the post office for anyone else who needs it.]

Lucas?

[Momentarily forgetting her own problems, she rushes over.]

Are you okay? You look awful!

. . . It's been a long few days.

Whatever they said they would give back to you, Mindy . . . It's not worth it.
