Gosh, haven't posted since November. The holidays were time-consuming. So, on the teeth front ... it's now a bit over 6 months, I'm moderately adjusted, have lost 40-45 pounds (depending on exactly what my weight was when they went on), and as of the next appointment on January 20 will no longer be using the retainer at night but will have the Rubber Bands. (Cue slightly ominous music.)
The ortho said several times that it will be easy to put them on, take them off, put them on (I'll be wearing them except for brushing and eating), but I remain cynically unconvinced.
Despite Thanksgiving, the open house, Christmas and Freehold Christmas, and the new slow cooker (which I am really liking having!) I still didn't gain weight, so that's an interesting sign. I did have the occasional cookie, but it continues to take effort and thought to eat things like that, which really slows me down.
Over actual Christmas I was in Florida (Cocoa Beach, Orlando, Tarpon Springs) with BFF, the sprout, and a couple of other friends. Sweetie stayed home to work and relax, having neither the vacation time nor (probably) the energy to contemplate a week with the sprout including Disneyworld. There was much time at the beach as well as a day at Kennedy Space Center, one at Epcot and half a day at the Magic Kingdom. The sprout and I also had our hair braided one day ... I'll probably be taking mine out next week.
I took off from the Magic Kingdom for Tarpon Springs, spending Christmas Eve and half of Christmas Day with my dad and stepmom before driving back to Orlando or the flight home. Dad was in the hospital, recuperating and having therapy post breaking his hip. So far, things seem to be going fairly well ... I'll be out there in a couple of weeks for a somewhat longer visit to see him and check out how things are going.
Got various DVDs for Christmas, including the first season of Pushing Daisies and Iron Man. The sprout likes PD, so we've watched a bunch of that. She doesn't always understand it, though, leading to pausing the DVD and answering questions.
Between the Florida vacation, Christmas and New Year's, there's been a lot of time off ... which I have enjoyed. Boy, if I could afford to retire, I'd probably do it. Not like I couldn't find all kinds of worthwhile stuff of do part-time or on a volunteer basis to keep my brain from atrophying. During the New Year's time off, I went with the sprout and her buddy to see the lights at the Zoo, and finally went and bought a couple pairs of jeans that don't look like clown pants. Today I pruned about seven pairs of pants from the closet/dresser, which should free up some space and time sorting through them looking for a feasible pair to wear, and went with sweetie to check out an antique mall. Tomorrow after brunch I may hit the museum to see Houdon from the Louvre before it closes.
One more day and back to work. But at least there is work to go back to, which a lot of people don't have right now. Counting blessings time, for sure.
