The 'office creep'

In my opinion this article is offensive.

The author, Frank McAndrew, 'is an evolutionary social psychologist. His research has been featured in hundreds of popular media outlets.' But as the comments on this article say, people who seem 'different' may be disabled in various ways. They may have survived abuse. They may also be in cultures which are foreign to them.

In fact, why am I writing 'they'? Many of us in friendly_crips know how it feels to be called 'different'.

I remember a scene in The L Shaped Room (film based on a novel by Lynne Reid Banks) when the central character, white English Jane, first sees her new neighbour. His black face terrifies her. But she discovers what a decent person he is and they become friends.

That classic novel was published in 1960. I've seen quotes from Reid Banks in which she says she regrets the racism in her 1960 words. In my opinion, McAndrew should learn from Reid Banks.
