Here in Britain, reports of the Ebola crisis in West Africa were too self-centred in my opinion. Huge attention was given to a very small number of British travellers who got, or might have, that terrible infection. I found it racist that African people's suffering got so much less attention in our media.
Still, it's our Government's job to care for us more than it cares for others. A report from the Commons Select Committee on Science and Technology says that we should care for ourselves better.
"Ebola exposed weaknesses in UK's response to disease emergencies." That report calls for more funding. As a scientist, of course I notice that, but I'm cynical about how much will really improve.
