Britain's Missing Top Model

Did you watch Britain's Missing Top Model? I know, this reveals my lowbrow taste in telly! But I do like the various Top Model shows. Sadly Britain's Missing Top Model is no longer available on BBC iPlayer, even in Britain, so if anybody knows where it can be watched, please tell us.

One of the contestants had a complex disability which involved falling asleep a lot. Another was almost completely deaf. Another had been born with only one arm. Another was paralysed from the chest down. Those are the 4 who stick in my mind. As well as them, I remember watching the attitudes of people around them. The photographer who posed all the models in ways that concealed their disabilities. The client who insisted all models should deliver their lines for an advertisement challenge, in spoken language not in sign. The mentor who said that he 'felt for' the paraplegic when she needed somebody to carry her up a staircase. And the organiser who 'treated' the contestants to an evening out, including the one who needed to sleep.

Then there were the contestants themselves. It's part of the drama in any reality show that the contestants insult one another, but in this show there were some bad attitudes. The girl who needed to sleep a lot was accused of faking her invisible disability. When she said that she wants people to know that she's disabled, the paraplegic got really aggressive.

Like most reality shows, this competition ended up with a winner. She was then to embark on her modelling career. I haven't seen her in any photographs or on telly since then, but perhaps that says something else about my taste!
