Keeping busy
Recently I've been sending my annual newsletter to various friends and family. I also chat with various people including the taxi drivers who take me to my workplace.
A few people have praised me for 'keeping busy', for 'being positive' and for 'not giving up'. People who don't know one another say those same things, so I suppose I must be portraying myself in a way that gets those responses. I deal with the compliments by pinning on my 'barista smile' and saying 'thank you'. It's genuine. Being complimented feels good.
When there's an opportunity, I add gentle words which could be translated as, 'What the fuck else can I do but keep busy? This is my life and I'll never get another one. If I "gave up" what would I do, eh? Sit in my own pee and poo, unwashed and unfed, until the Grim Reaper comes for me?'
