THE STORY OF PEEP THE COURAGEOUS PIGEON

It was a dark and stormy night. No, it was just a normal night really. I heard this peep... peep... peep... from what sounded like outside and I was like, oh man! annoying bird sitting outside my window! but then I realised that it actually sounded like it was coming from INSIDE the house. So I walked out of my room into the loungeroom and Jellyfish was walking into the loungeroom with something in her mouth and I was like OH MAN!!!! so I tried to head her off and get her to go back outside but instead she ran into my bedroom and I was like AAAAH MOTHERLAND and scared her so much that she ran back out into the loungeroom... but had dropped the bird hahaha. I freaked out a bit and it was flapping a bit but not flying up off the ground so I scooped it up in a shirt or something, tucked it up and went out the back with it peeping away. When I got out the back I unfolded the shirt and held it up and Peep was like "... peep :|" and wouldn't move, so I was like OH MAN. WHAT DO I DO. UMMMM.

So! I went right up into the backyard and put her up on a branch in a tree, and she was clinging onto that okay, so I was like YAY! I walked away and I thought, SHE WILL PROBS FLY AWAY. but then I went back out half an hour to an hour later and she was still just hanging out on the branch :( I couldn't leave her there :( so I brought her back inside, clinging to my finger, and we hung out in my room (she sat on my shoulder *_*) while I tried to find contact numbers for a local wildlife rescue place or something - and made the lj post hahaha. PIP CAME TO MY RESCURE. IT SERIOUSLY TOOK US AGES TO FIND A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL, LIKE AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR. IT WAS RIDICULOUS!!! I have it saved in my phone now though =;

Mem: ohhh dear i'm not sure where she's gone
Mem: HEY I THINK SHE MIGHT HAVE FLOWN OUT THE WINDOW!!!!!! !!!!!!!
Pip: ;lkajsdf
Mem: i opened my bedroom window and then shut my door and went out to get a box and things and she shuffled around on my bed a bit
Mem: i can hear some peeping outside
Pip: i don't know if that's a good or bad thing
Mem: ohhh no she's just behind my bookshelf
Pip: box her up!
Mem: adjflkad she is in a really awkward spot

ANYWAY, the lady on the phone was lovely, said that even if she could fly, she probably wouldn't fly off in the dark because night time is time for all good pigeons to go to bed! So she said just to put Peep in a cardboard box with airholes, no food or water though. She also said that cat saliva is like snake venom for birds - if it gets into their bloodstream it can and will kill them pretty quickly. HOW INTERESTING RIGHT? Anyway she said that it was highly possible that Peep would die from shock and/or internal injuries overnight (I couldn't see any external stuff but of course you never know what's going on inside) and that I shouldn't get too worried about it. BUT if Peep was still alive in the morning then I could call back and talk to her and find out where to go from there. SHE WAS REALLY NICE. 1800 328 621 if you ever need to know, fellow Brisbanites. That's 1800 FAUNA! Hahaha.

Mem: i need to go put some airholes in the box ajdlkad brb
Pip: righto
Mem: i shouldn't need to put too many holes, should i??
Pip: not HEAPS
Pip: but plenty
Mem: oh pip she's all tucked into herself :(
Pip: going to sleep!
Pip: the calmer you are, the calmer she'll be >:D<
Pip: you know how animals sense these things
Mem: i know
Mem: that's why i'm so worried that she'll die all because i'm anxious about how many holes i have punched for her ajdfkad

So I did the box thing - WELL, I had in fact already done that, THANKS PIP, so I got verbal thumbs up for that, and then I worried a bit and I checked on her first thing this morning and she was STILL ALIVE :D :D :D so I took her in the box outside, opened the lid and put the box down on the ground out the back, then sat her up on the edge of the box. I went inside and busied around getting ready for work and everything and once that was done, I went back outside to check on her and she was still just sitting on the edge of the box T_T so I called FAUNA! again and was like, heeeelp T_T FAUNA! lady said just to take Peep to the local vet and they would check her out and then probably pass her on to a carer (or have to put her down if she had any internal stuff :(!).

So that's what I did! On the way to work I stopped in and dropped her off at the vet near our place. The ladies at the vet were like AWW SHE'S SO LITTLE *_* hehehehe. so yep... that's my story. I called them at lunch time just to find out the news :| I guess I didn't really want to know that she'd been put down but at the same time I didn't want an open-ended story. Anyway they said she didn't have any bad injuries or anything, at that time she was sitting in an enclosure at the vet's and peeping away quite happily, and that a carer was going to come in and pick her up some time today, and that I will probably get a call some time soon from the carer because they like to release the birds in the same place they were found. *_*! SO I MIGHT SEE LITTLE PEEP AGAIN YET. but yeah, she mostly wasn't flying because she's still a bit little to! awwww.

THAT'S THE END OF MY STORY*~~ now go to bed, kids.
