Movies I saw last year (by boxofficemojo.com's list of highest-grossing movies - http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2005&p=.htm)

Well, it was a vaguely disappointing year for movies, with only a few sticking out for me. I didn't actually get to the cinema as much as I would have liked, but here goes...

1 Star Wars: Episode III (great for a prequel, still not even as good as Jedi overall)
4 War of the Worlds (decent, Dakota Fanning scares the bejeezus out of me though)
5 Wedding Crashers (maybe the best comedy this year "I crashed a funeral today"... extra points for Isla Fisher)
6 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (okay but possibly the worst Tim Burton movie I've seen, it's between this and Planet of the Apes)
7 Batman Begins (awesome, but not perfect. on reflection it's the second best Bat movie behind the 1989 one)
8 King Kong (the first hour and the last half hour are brilliant - you can nip out for a pint or five between those two parts though... also PETER JACKSON QUIT USING CGI FOR EVERYTHING YOU'RE GONNA TURN INTO GEORGE LUCAS)
9 Madagascar (not bad)
11 Hitch Sony (wow this was high up the gross-list... pretty funny)
13 Fantastic Four Fox (better than I expected, much better than the reviews gave it credit for. only complaint is Doctor Doom was beaten too easily)
17 The 40-Year-Old Virgin Uni. (disappointing, the trailer was funnier)
19 Flightplan (entertaining but dumb)
24 The Dukes of Hazzard (made me miss my old car :'C)
26 The Ring Two (crap. didn't even scare my girlfriend, and she's afraid of tom cruise)
27 Constantine (missed opportunity, come back with james marsters and less CGI and we'll talk)
28 The Exorcism of Emily Rose SGem (actually quite scary, although I'd totally have found the dude guilty if I'd been on the jury)
30 Sin City (so faithful to the comics that I'm still not sure how much I liked it as a movie... looking forward to dame to kill for though)
35 Coach Carter (solid sam jackson movie)
39 Bewitched (flopped, but was substantially better than a lot of the other shit out there... funnier than 40 year old virgin)
42 Red Eye (best wes craven since scream, probably my favourite 2005 thriller)
43 White Noise (nice horror, couple of good scares, weird ending)
#45 Be Cool (Be Shit)
51 Hide and Seek (meep dakota again *hides behind sofa*)
52 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (acceptable)
55 Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (saw this as part of a deal, was just about worth it for batman begins)
57 The Skeleton Key (best horror of the year by a mile, between this and flightplan I won't be trusting peter skarsgaard (sp?) anytime soon though...)
71 The Island (well I quite liked it...)
74 Hostage (was that the one with bruce willis and the house? not too bad but not die hard either)
81 House of Wax (impressively nasty, excellent paris hilton death)
84 A History of Violence (cool but strange)
89 Doom (pretty crappy, but I've seen worse)
93 Elizabethtown (actually wasn't a good film, and yet I liked it... huh? probably explained by a soft spot for kirsten dunst and a great soundtrack. was not without its charms otherwise, despite being not a good film. weird.)
94 Serenity (probably my favourite movie of the year - quietly and comprehensively kicks revenge of the sith's ass, and I'm a major star wars fan)
95 Dark Water (not scary)
98 Elektra (okay but I'd still like someone to do daredevil: born again)
109 Assault on Precinct 13 (not bad, glad to see larry fishburne back doing non-shit movies after the matrix)
112 Cursed (fine until the CGI werewolf fucks it up... are you getting the feeling I don't like poorly-done digital effects yet?)
119 The Devil's Rejects (fucking awful, only saw it because I met bill mosely and ken foree and they were both nice)
128 The Cave (better than doom, anyway)
150 The Aristocrats (interesting, but the joke sucks)
