It looks like Zach Gilford may be giving a starring role in a medical drama another shot. While many will associate him with his role as Matt Saracen in Friday Night Lights, once the NBC football drama wrapped up, Gilford moved on to star in the short-lived medical drama Off the Map. Things didn’t go so well for the ABC series, but perhaps Gilford will have better luck with Fox’s untitled drama by Josh Berman and Robert Wright.
In development for Fox is a medical drama pilot starring Jordana Spiro, who is set to play Grace Devlin, a young surgeon who works at Chicago’s most prominent hospital, but also has to moonlight as a doctor for the mob in order to pay off a debt. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Zach Gilford has signed on to play Dr. Brett Robinson, “a handsome blueblood” who works with Grace, presumably at the hospital (as oppose to the mob).
As the Reporter notes, numerous FNL alums have moved on to other pilots, with Connie Britton on board to star in ABC’s drama pilot Nashville. Aimee Teegarden will star in the CW’s The Selection pilot. Michael B. Jordan is set to appear in Jason Katims’ County pilot for NBC. ANd Matt Lauria is set to star in the Shonda Rhimes produced drama pilot Gilded Lilys.
Hopefully things will work out for this untitled medical drama pilot, however if it’s not meant to be, Gilford fans can look forward to seeing him on the big screen. The actor is set to appear in the Arnold Schwarzenegger action thriller Last Stand. [
