You're Not That Great

You're not so great
All this time I failed to tell you something
You show up late
And all that we were saying becomes nothing

You're not that great

For all the ways
you learn so much quicker than the people all around
For all that taste-
Like you fell out of a magazine and landed on the ground
You're not that great

You know the way
through every little back road to every corner of this town
and you can play
every song from Lucinda to James Brown

You step outside
and you exude such charm and personality
Do you realize
how quick you are to yell at your own family?

You're not that great

The smallest wrinkle in your day
and your twinkle fades away

Soon your voice will shake the windows
stiffen toes, scalps and fingers
When the storm returns to calm
the devastation lingers
As if you punch and push and batter
as you think that words don't matter

It's about time somebody let you know.
You're not that great.
