Buffy: I’m so tired of being here, Angel. If you have to go then just go. I’m sick of you dragging all of this out with your drama. Can’t you see that this hurts me? Its childish. Are you trying to torture me? If being here with me is that horrible, then just go.
{Buffy sobs and turns her back on him}
Angel: Buffy....
{His voice trails off and he wants to touch her, but he cant. He lingers over her shoulder wanting desperatly to put his arms around her but unable to find the strength. She feels his presence behind her and shows signs of desperatly wanting to lean in to him. But that six inched between them stays despite the fact that they both want it to go.}
Buffy: Its too late Angel. You can’t just... expect this to be fixed. It just... hurts SO much.
{She turns to face him, tears streaming down her face}
Buffy (continued): How do you expect me to live without you when you’re right here. I can’t... its just TOO. HARD.
{Angel raises a hand to wipe away her tears. He touches her faces incredibly gently as if afraid to touch her. A shiver runs through her at his touch and she takes in a deep breath}
Angel: You’ll always have me Buffy. Always. We’ve been through too much together. We’ve fought side by side through everything that’s come our way. How can you possibly think you’d ever be alone? I’m here for you.
Buffy: (softly) Angel....
{Her tears increase like she wants to believe him. She wants to go in for a hug and for a moment it looks like she will do it. She stares at his chest wanting desperatly to put her head on it. But she resists}
Angel: I can be here for you...
Buffy: (takes a deep breath and pushes herself away from him) No you cant...
{she fights back more tears}
Buffy (continued): Try to understand. You’re all i’ve wanted. All that i’ve ever needed to feel whole. To feel complete. But now... (she takes a second to regain composure) Now... to have you here would just make things worse. I can’t be near you and not have you. I can’t see you without loving you. I can’t... (her voice trails off)
Angel: but... I love you...
{His face wrinkles with concern. We suddenly remember how much older than her he is.}
Buffy: I know. And that’s why... That’s why I need you to go. I can’t get over you if you’re still here.
{Angel kisses her. In the background we hear:
These wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there’s just too much that time cannot erase
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along
As the music continues Angel takes one long final look at Buffy.}
Angel: Good bye Buffy
{Angel walks away into the shadows one final time. Buffy is speechless as she watches him go. Tears POUR down her face now.
Buffy: Good bye...
{She collapses to her knees and lets all the tears finally escape}
