Show of hands; who else thought the lack of weirdness wouldn't last?

Not that I'm complaining about the reprieve.  Just saying.  It may have looked over, but it didn't feel over.  It was too easy, and without any kind of explanation.

Let the reign of It begin.

Of course it was not going to last. The Admiral is a bastard whose mental stability is worse than Dr. Lewis's. Anyone who was dumped off in Paris without a Warden could tell you that.

What makes you think this shitstorm's his fault? Way I hear it could be somethin' else.

Have you had, perhaps, a look at his little conversations with Martha and the others over the ship's sudden reversion? He's laughing and saying how lovely it all is. It is not "someone else". The Admiral himself is barking mad and means to make us suffer. Just because he relatively coddles the Wardens does not mean he is, how do you say...a "good guy".

Never said he was. I said something, anyway. Could be him an' not him at the same time, especially if we're not goin' by normal rules anymore.

Him and not him? That is a great deal of rationalization to avoid the obvious truth.

Let me explain something to you. While you and the Wardens were living it up in Paris, he dumped myself and all other unattended Inmates off the Barge without money, food or shelter. Our choices were to live as penniless transients, or break the rules and face punishment. He did this knowingly and deliberately. Not only did the Wardens do nothing--none of you even acknowledged that there was a problem with this. I have no doubt that the Admiral knew Warden blindness and apathy would keep you all from intervening, so he had his fun with us. Just as he is doing now.

I understand that it is in your interests to believe that the bastard isn't out to make us suffer every chance that he gets, but you have not been here very long. What you see as an anomaly, those who are veterans of his garbage see as part of an ongoing pattern of behavior.

...Shit, man, that's...fucked. I didn't know. I mean...I know that's not an excuse, but. [Cue diction shift; he's trying to actually be professional about this.] I didn't even think, I just...figured you got taken care of okay.

But he's supposed to be in charge, you guys are here because...well you know. How does that work if he's not on our side? What's the point, why bother in the first place? [Still skeptical, but it's pretty compelling evidence and Freddy's too much a chameleon by nature to disagree too loudly]

There are well intentioned people here. They are not universal but they do exist. Being around them, learning to live with them--this for example is what has brought out my better nature. Not anything our host has done.

Hell and good intentions are kinda more close than I'd like, but point taken.

But what about everybody else? That's not gonna work for everybody, I mean...I've seen the people who ended up here, not everybody's as..self-aware as you.

I can't speak for them. I will just say...if you truly wish to do something to make this place better, stand by your Inmate. Don't disappear, don't let your friends Warden your inmate by committee, and don't get so wrapped up in your own issues that you forget about theirs.

[He actually sounds...kind of sad, and it thickens his accent some.]

You do not have control over the Admiral being mad or the places we have to go or the things that happen to us. But if you can be dependable for that one person, it does help. The less we suffer the less inclined we are to cause suffering.

Yeah, okay. I can do that. I mean, gotta get an inmate first, but. Doable. Thanks for the tips, man, I'm kinda makin' it up as I go here, so...that's helpful.

How long have you been here?

Good.

I've...been here over six months now.

You don't seem too sure about that. The way things are though, I can understand how it might be hard keeping track.

Don't even get sunrises.

I went a bit mad for the first few months I was here. It was a blow to my ego, I suppose. The great Dracula, stripped of all and forced to adapt to a truly alien place. But I believe I have been here since April.

...Dracula.

[Cue an expression equal parts doubt and awe.]

Like...the Count?

Yes, indeed, it is I, though the details are likely not as you would expect them. I am...both more and less of a monster than the popular stories would make me out.

...You definitely don't look like a monster.

Not that that means anything. Frankenstein's monster looked like death warmed over an' he was only a menace 'cause people wouldn't leave him the fuck alone.

[Give him a few minutes and he'll be in fanboy mode, right now he's shocked into normal conversation.]
