Christmas Meme
1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? This is going to surprise some people who know me. Hot Chocolate. Yes I know I'm like the biggest Egg Nog supporter ever, but when it comes down to which one I would choose if I had to, Hot Chocolate would win every time. Especially if it had mint in it.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Wraps. Always has, always will. He's cool like that.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? I like white because it looks shiny like icicles. As long as there is a good mix of color and white I'm cool. For both house and tree I like a mix. White lights are good but they should be accentuating coloured decorations or coloured lights.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? I don't believe I ever have. Sounds like fun though. Maybe I'll do that this year. Pucker up diablorobotica
5. When do you put your decorations up? As soon as I can without people giving me shit for it. Usually right after Thanksgiving.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? TURKEY! I could eat turkey for every meal of the day, every day of the year. It is the best fowl ever to lend its carcass to human consumption. OH MAN I LOVE DA TURKEY!
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child: Hmmm, tough one. I'd have to say it was the year that we got a Nintendo for Christmas. First we had a really fun Christmas week with my Dad. The house was decorated nice and everything was warm and cozy and fun. Then after Christmas morning my Dad went to Seattle to visit his lady friend. So, my mom stayed with us at our house that whole week. It was an awesome couple of weeks there.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I seem to remember hearing the rumours about Santa in 1st grade. I don't think I really accepted it though until around 7 or 8.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We kinda bounced back and forth on that. More often than not though we waited until Christmas morning. I think I like it better that way.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? As quickly as possible. I love having a tree and even setting up the tree (yay for fake!) but for some reason I REALLY hate putting on ornaments. I never feel like I've gotten the spread right and I'm always worried that an ornament is too heavy for a branch and blah blah blah. I dunno. I like the tree experience, excluding that part.
11. Snow! Love it or dread it? If it snowed one or two days out of the year here it would be nice. But I wouldn't want much more than that. I like to look at snow and briefly play in the snow. But I HATE driving in it and dealing with it as far as cleanup and stuff.
12. Can you ice skate? Not really. I have a slight birth defect in that my left leg bone sits awkwardly forward in my hip socket. Thus activities which require balance like ice skating and roller skating are a lot more difficult for me. I can be okay for like a few minutes but then my back muscles and my legs start to cramp up on me from all of the extra work they are doing. I'm sure if I really really put some time and effort into it I would be okay eventually but I dunno, I've never learned to associate ice skating with "fun".
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Tough question. I think it would have to be something I got when I was 13. After Christmas Day I flew from Seattle to Washington D.C. (all by myself) to visit my mother. The gift I got was tickets to see Les Miserables which I had been dying to see for 2 or 3 years. So My mom, my stepdad and I all drove up to New York and got to see it. The whole visit was magical and that was just the icing on the cake.
14. What do you want for Christmas this year? Not sure really. I could always use some good books. For some time now I've been meaning to read biographies on every U.S. president. Or any history book really is good times.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? So hard to decide. Probably pecan pie. Can't get enough of that stuff.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Kind of a sad tradition and I'm very glad that it will soon be over but I like the annual call from my brother.
17. What tops your tree? A kind of poinsetta star thingy. It's really pretty but I need to find a way to illuminate it from behind or below. I bought the damn thing because I thought it would look really nice with light coming through it. So, I need to get a way to send some light through it
18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? Both. I love to get but I have a lot of fun shopping for people and it's always nice to see a happy look on their faces when you've given them something they really enjoy.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? "O Come Emmanuel". It's just so creepy and cool. I love it. As for more contemporary hits, "Sleigh Ride".
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? I'm not a big fan of hard candy. Though I'll usually submit to one candy cane a year. Overall I'd rate them as "meh".
