Esc, why won't it let me Esc? =(

Yes computer, I feel the same way. XP decided to lose access to 10% of it's... self. Everything works fine except the search feature and I can not access the user account management panel (and at certain times I cannot view system specs). Anyway I'm going to use this as an excuse to partition the hard drives, sort and reorganize my files, and to back up and clean out things I don't need.
I almost reformatted/reinstalled without backing up my bookmarks. Literally at that last moment before hitting "Ok" I thought "....bookmarks! OMG OMG OMG..." And then, you know, frantically tried to cancel and prayed that it would let me. I miss the days when Esc actually allowed you to escape.
