I have no interest in returning to the past, reviving the past or reconstructing the past. I am interested in the present and the rebirth of all earthly life in all of its fullness. I am interested in life free from authoritarian oppression, exploitation and destruction.
What inspires me about the Renaissance is that it was a rebirth of the human spirit. It was a period of great liberation, an orgasm of human creativity in every dimension of life-art, poetry, drama, philosophy, architecture, science, exploration, discovery, politics, economics and more.
The Renaissance was inspired by Paganism, specifically the Paganism of Greece and Rome but also Egypt. Its masters looked to the ancient Pagan past, not to return to it, revive it or reconstruct it. They looked to the past as a source of inspiration for their own lives in their own day. Inspired by ancient Paganism, their creative work changed the world.
It was done then and can be done now but not if we try to return to, revive or reconstruct the past. It can be done as we continue to allow the Pagan spirits, goddesses and gods, of our ancestors to inspire us today as they inspired the masters of the Renaissance.
