Wheel of the Year

Okay, so I had this big insight that now makes the annual cycle or Wheel of the Year meaningful to me.  This is big for me. I’ve been reading and practicing Pagan, Heathen, Wiccan and generic commentaries and rituals for almost ten years trying to find something that was meaningful to me. Nothing clicked for me. The stuff I tried was either too agriculturally based, too Aesiric, too Wiccan, too psychologized, too Ceremonial, too Celtic, too Italian, too Egyptian, too Germanic, too artificial, too generic, too poorly written or just too damn boring for me.

Yesterday I had an insight that brought together for me a huge number of things related to the Wheel of the Year. Trouble is, when I have insights like this they come to me whole and it takes me a while to write it out. It’s like the insight is a big bowl of spaghetti and writing it out is like pulling out noodles one at a time and lining them in a way that makes sense to read.

Basically, the insight is about how linear, abstract, unnatural, unbalanced, hierarchical and andocentric the Christianized Northern Hemispheric calendar is.  It ignores or suppresses the cyclical, concrete, organic, balanced and inclusive reality of the cycles of life in this world. The insight is also about how the Goddess tradition calendars acknowledge all that the now standard calendar ignores or suppresses.

With this insight I will now be able to create simple rituals that are meaningful to me. Doing so will help me move forward in what I am sure will be a life-long recovery from Indo European influences in general and Christianity in particular.
