I was taught and have often heard that when doing energy work our intention is what really matters. I agree that our intention is of essential importance in energy work. Without a clear intention our energy work lacks focus. The energy has no direction. However, is our clear intention really enough for effective energy work? I think not.
Is there any other endeavor in which we think that our intention is enough? Is intention enough to speak in a way that others understand? Is it enough to write and send an e-mail? Can we prepare a meal, drive a car, love another by intention alone? Is there anything that we can actually accomplish with only our clear intention? Intention is not enough.
In order to be effective our clear intention must be matched with refined skill. Only with some level of refined skill can we speak and be understood, send an e-mail, prepare a meal, drive, love another or do anything worthwhile.
Intention is essential, so is skill. With both our intention and our skill we cast our sacred circle and access the world between worlds. We create and charge bind-runes, talismans, and amulets. We bless a home or send healing and empowerment to one in need. Intention requires skill to be effective.
In fact, can we even formulate a clear intention without some level of polished skill?
