Since I always comment but constantly just re-re-edit one entry, I decided from now on, to keep my thoughts under a cut.
The Rum Diary was actually a lot better than I had anticipated. A young Hunter S. Thompson? Is it even possible? :D
The Glass Castle was so far one of the best books I've read this year. As a matter of fact, I think it's up there with my favorite books evah! Recommended all around!
I was not a fan of The Great Gatsby, which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like it. I mean it's F. Scott Fitzgerald. He was the quintessential example of the roaring 20s, and important to flapper-dom, as a whole. :) The characters lacked depth, were shallow, and I didn't really like them.
Heh I don't know why but I totally dig Tori Spelling. Her autobiography was pretty entertaining.
The Hours was one of the most depressing yet beautiful books I have ever read. Wow...
Persepolis was an ok read, very quick, as is usually the case with graphic novels. It was a good look inside Iranian culture.
Such A Pretty Fat was chick lit...but it was cute chick lit. I swear Jen Lancaster and I are twins. I feel like I wrote that book.:D
Anthony Bourdain's book was a bit of a disappointment to me. I think I was jsut expecting more since I am an avid "No Reservations" fan. Also, it felt a bit rushed. I must say though that I already told Steve he is taking me to Les Halles for an anniversary or something. :)
I loved The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. I could not put it down! It was a delicious read and I'm very curious about her other works, as well as other historic-romance novels. I need to get The Boleyn Inheritance! Also yay! New royal family to obsess over - Tudors!
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer was utterly amazing. I truly adored it. It is certainly one of my top three books of the year. I bawled my eyes out at the end.
Vinegar Hill was good although highly depressing. Not a good book to read if you're going through relationship problems, fo' sho'.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist was pretty sucky. It wasn't a good YA read and it wasn't a good 20-something read. I feel it was really contrived and I don't see how they could have effectively made a movie out of it unless it strayed really far from the plot.
