we watched it all night; we grew up in spite of it

This is pretty self-explanatory - just a spiffed up version of one of my iTunes playlists.

It's not a sappy mix, so don't expect to have your heart warmed, with a few exceptions. I think they're all very intimate and beautiful songs, though.

Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own - U2
Can you hear me when I sing?
You're the reason I sing
You're the reason the opera is in me

Mother, you had me but I never had you,
I wanted you but you didn't want me
Father, you left me but I never left you,
I needed you but you didn't need me

Romulus - Sufjan Stevens
She moved away quite far
Our grandpa bought us a new VCR
We watched it all night, we grew up in spite of it.

But 'til then, no, daddy, don't be surprised
If I wanna see the tears in your eyes

Won't you come back tomorrow?
Can I sleep tonight?

In your red lipstick and lilac kercheif
You're the most pretty lady in the world

Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you, Julia

His blood runs through my instrument
And his song is in my soul

Pittsfield - Sufjan Stevens

If I can't recall the last time you told me so

Mother, remember the blink of an eye when I breathed through your body?
So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Sons are like birds, flying upward over the mountain

I always meant to ask you about the war
