Yes, though I initially picked it out for the earlier portion of my mix, to represent where I though Scully was in her relationship with Mulder at the beginning of the movie. I really like what you did with the video, though I think you have a different recording of the song than I do. Was it my imagination or did you slow/speed-up some of the footage? I made sure I was adjusted to 4:3 first.

If you don't mind, I'm going to c/p my rational for picking "Samson" for my mix... Feel free to ignore or passionately disagree as you've obviously thought long and hard about this yourself. :)

Samson
By Regina Spektor

This song is Scully’s view on Mulder before the beginning of the film. First, I like that it references Samson, a Biblical hero, because it fits well with Scully’s religious views and some of the themes of the movie. Samson was an incredibly strong man who the powers feared, but he gave the key to his undoing into the hands of a woman he loved. Does Scully every feel that she is keeping Mulder from his great destiny? The song says:

We couldn't break the columns down
No, we couldn't destroy a single one
And it is important to note the “we” there while considering Samson’s final act… when he has regained his strength, he tears down the supporting columns of the Temple, bringing it down on the heads of his enemies but killing himself in the process. He knows what will happen and does it anyway. Would Mulder ever sacrifice himself to end the alien colonization? I think the answer is obvious, but - more importantly - I think it’s obvious what Scully would predict. But now, in their unremarkable house, they are living the life of quiet harmony, no grand battles, and no heroic destinies:

and the history books forgot about us
and the Bible didn’t mention us
not even once
Other lines speak to me of Scully.
You are my sweetest downfall
Take a moment to reflect on the expected course of Scully’s life, had she never been assigned to the x-files. Mulder himself tells her in “Tooms” that she’s going to be head of the Bureau in 30 years. Yet, for all her requests for him to stop or to ‘get out of the car,’ Scully wouldn’t change a day of her life with Mulder.

Beneath the stars came falling on our heads
But they're just old light
They're just old light
This reminds me so much of their conversation in “Closure.”

Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
Told me I was beautiful and came into my bed
I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors and the yellow light
He told me that I'd done alright
and kissed me till the morning light the morning light
and he kissed me till the morning light
Aaaah… this whole passage! Her hair is red! Mulder coming to bed and telling her she’s beautiful speaks of a sweet and tender relationship between them.

The hair cutting is a classic feature of the biblical Samson tale. Samson’s strength was connected to his hair… allowing a woman to cut it placed great trust in her hands (not always well placed in the biblical story, of course), so these lines can speak to Mulder’s ultimate and unlimited trust in Scully. Beyond that… if Mulder is living in the unremarkable house and technically still a fugitive, who do you think cuts his hair? Okay… you know he probably tried it himself at least once, but I would really like to see someone write a fanfic with sexy hair-care times leading to kisses until the morning light between our two former-FBI agents. Okay? Okay.
