I have been slowly going through the Mind Performance Hacks book and one of the things that he talks about is the Dominic System of memory. It works like this:
Each number has a reference to a letter and vice versa:
0 <-> O
1 <-> A
2 <-> B
3 <-> C
4 <-> D
5 <-> E
6 <-> S
7 <-> G
8 <-> H
9 <-> N
That's the easy part. After that you make 100 memory links from 00 to 99 using those letters (and possibly the numbers too, although I don't think that is "standard.") The links are supposed to have both a noun and a verb. The noun is supposed to be a person, because people are easy to remember, and it is best if the entire image is positive, because it is easier for us to remember positive images. Examples:
00->OO->Ozzy Osbourne/Biting the head off of a bat
44->DD->Donnie Darko/Shooting a person in a rabbit suite
80->HO->Santa Clause/Laughing (HO HO HO)
So then the way that you remember stuff with this system is by putting the numbers together and making a noun verb combo.
Example: 4480 <-> Donnie Darko Laughing (like Santa Claus)
So the system has a pretty big overhead to learn, but it's worth it because it helps one remember weird things like dates and numbers. And if one needs to there are ways to use this system to hold even more data.
I am still working on making my 00-99 mnemonics, because I do not have a huge amount of time to make all those (the more personal the better) but I am working on it. I hope to publish them when I am done with them though.
I challenge you to try depending less on paper and electronics and more on your memory today. Try to make some mnemonics that will help you remember what you have to do on Tuesdays. If anyone reading this has any ideas for that kind of thing, please, let me know! I am very interested.
