Days of Our Lives, Philippine Version

Sep 03, 2009 13:21

First things first, the summer of death seriously needs to stop. (Basing it on the fact that it's still summer in the U.S. where most of the sensationalized deaths have happened).  Or maybe someone is having a lot of fun with the Death Note.

Moving on, let's talk about the soap opera-esque twist on the best selling drama in the third world: Philippine politica.

Mar Roxas (who happens to be newscaster/"serious" journalist Korina Sanchez's fiancee) just announced that he will not run for the 2010 presidential election to make way for Noynoy Aquino (son of the late President Cory and Senator Ninoy Aquino, who happens to be Korina's ex-boyfriend) in his bid for the presidency.

Roxas' rival, Kiko Pangilinan then says that he will drop out of the race too in order to give way to Mar Roxas to run. And now, Korina Sanchez has been giving interviews left and right about how Kiko Pangilinan owes her a lot because she "built up" his reputation.

Le sigh. That was so Gossip Girl-ish, don't you think Upper Eastsiders?

Seriously, Korina needs to get a grip on herself. What ever happened to the polished newscaster image, girlfriend? With your statements that drip with bitterness that could rival our local ampalaya, you'd make the masses (who don't like to use their god-given braincells) think that you're marrying Mar because of your ambition to be First Lady.

Ambition is good, but too much of anything can lead to one's downfall. Next thing you know, Korina might be writing a letter to Ate Charo. Wahahaha.

So what happens next? Tune in to the next episode of Days of Our Lives....
