File this under "Tintin Decides To Use Her One-Working Brain Cell". Oh and p.s., if you consider yourself a hardcore Catholic (which is like 90% of the population), please steer clear of this entry. I will not be tolerating any spiteful comments.
This afternoon on my way to the shop, there was a heavy downpour. Ironically I got stuck in front of Sto. Rosario Church and was merely observing passerby while waiting for the traffic to get a move on. I saw this woman carrying a life-size Sto. Niño statue (to my foreign friends, the Sto. Niño is a replica of the child Jesus...believed to bring luck to a house/business establishment) in one hand and carrying an umbrella with her other free hand. And there were two kids who were clinging to her arms.
I just found it odd that this woman seemed so concerned about keeping the statue in the driest condition possible but would actually let the two children with her (who I assume are her own) get soaked in the rain.
I heard one of the ladies who were selling religious relics in front of the church holler at the woman "Yung mga anak mo nababasa na hoy!" (Hey your kids are getting soaked!), guess what the woman says "Pagagalingin naman sila ng Niño pag nagkasakit sila." (The Niño will heal them if ever they get sick.)
Sorry, but that seems to be the lamest excuse ever.
Sometimes people need to get a grip on reality instead of being such religious fanatics. Stop relying too much on the belief that the Almighty will take care of everything for you.
Yes, in spite of the tone of this entry...I still believe in God. But please, He is not a 7-11 that has to take care of every screw up that you do.
