Here's a note of interest: when hiking through the wilds of Alaska, make sure you don't smell sugary. If this means no morning shower because your body wash smells like figs, so be it. Otherwise, every bug on the trail will swarm you. However, on a related note: cedar bark produces enough oil to be used as bug repellent. Just strip the bark and rub it on your skin. I know, sounds insane, but it works. In the end, though, for a view like that one? Totally worth it.
