It's been awhile kids. Sorry. I guess I am not as committed to this blog as you thought, though this is the longest journal I have ever kept. Going on THREE YEARS now. Wha hoo! Congrats to me and my annoying blathering.
But I figure, if First Lieutenant Sean Grealish can keep us updated on his life in the middle of a war zone, I can keep you updated on my life in the teenage urban war zone, that is my job.
So,... yea, I got punched in the face this week. Well, kind of the face/shoulder area. But don't fret because the punch wasn't intended for me, just the girl I was trying to protect. You see, before the punch occurred a few girls in my lunch duty were standing in the back of the WJHS cafe. The students need to be either in line or sitting. Makes sense right? Well after a few attempts from the microphone to have them sit, where I was rather rudely ignored, I went back there myself. I stumbled upon an argument between three girls, where it was basically two friends against the other girl. It got more heated, then one girl started to take off her earrings. Now, this is the tell tale sign, that a fight will happen. This means, that the girl is now committed to getting a bit roughed up. She is committed in her mind to fight. So I step between all the parties, and try to signal the other teachers in the cafe to come help diffuse before blows are thrown. Sadly, it was too late. They stand up, start sweating loudly. I may be of a rather unimposing stature, but when I get my angry voice on, which I get from my father, I can be much more intimidating.
But I learned something that day...No amount of angry voice is going to stop a group of very heated 14 year old girls from fighting. So, punches were thrown. I do my best to push one girl away from the fray as the other teachers arrive and restrain the other girls. During it though, yes I did get hit, not very hard though, and I didn't get a bruise, so no battle scars, unfortunately. Though, very fortunate for the girl who threw the punch, because if it was bad or visible, I would have had to report it, and it would have been a 10 day suspension with possible expulsion hearing. I know the girl didn't intend to hurt me, so I let it go, she is still suspended for a good amount of time, so no worries on learning her lesson.
Other than that nothing too exciting. Over the last few months I have gotten to know a bunch of the people I work with a lot better, and been hanging out with them a lot outside of school.
It has been a lot harder recently to plan things with my friends from around Brockton. They all seem to have significant others now, leaving me the only single one. Many times they are content to just hang in, with their loved ones, leaving me all by my lonesome. Maybe that's selfish, but it is true, and I don't hate them for it, it is what it is. Suffice it to say, the single life in Brockton, is a lot harder than one would think.
There have been a few rays of hope on that front recently though, which I can't get into, but the summer will hopefully be a bastion of girls, beer, and fun!
