I got a laptop last night and picked it up today. It's sooo nice, I love it. Can't play Sims on it, it's only 3 GB. I wanted 4, but whatever. We're getting our desktop computer fixed, since it got pwn'd by a massive virus, so then I'll be able to play again :)

We moved into our new place, it's still barely unpacked, but we're getting there. It's not ( Read more... )

To quote Jamie: "see now, there's your problem!"

The laptop doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, which is why the guys at the shop were saying you need more RAM. You don't say what the processor is, but if it's not a good, fast processor, then with the on-board graphics eating your RAM and the operating system eating MORE RAM, you may actually have barely enough power to run the full game. I found this site insanely useful before buying my current laptop: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4200.20493.0.html

If you can stand not running all the EPs and SPs, I would stay try installing base game, Uni, NL and OFB. You could probably also try installing some SPs because they're mostly objects and clothes. If you run that with just default replacements, some low poly hair, some makeup and some Maxis recolours (ie. stay away from high poly meshes), you might actually be able to play in a limited way. Most EPs after Seasons became quite graphics intensive, but up to OFB should theoretically be OK.

Haha, thanks for the info Engram, I appreciate it. I'll probably just wait now until we get our desktop fixed. :)
