Well, it's that time again.
yuletide authors have been revealed, so it's post-mortem o'clock. But first...
2016 IS OVER. THANK JEEBUS.
Anyway, the Yulegods granted me two gifts this year. I'm not 100% sure which was official, but I suspect that it is:
ChoicesBeing Human, Sally Malik, Aidan Waite
For the past two years, I've prompted this rambling, ridiculous idea of season four Sally bouncing around time trying to get back to the life she knows. My Yuletide writer sent her all the way back to the beginning - to human Aidan, and Bishop on a battlefield, waiting to set all their lives in motion. It's a very intriguing idea, and as I told my author, I think it has all the makings of a patented Sally Malik "best intentions" debacle, but I love the notion that she would sacrifice a relationship with her best friends in order to spare them a fate that should not have been. Fate, though, is a tricky thing.
My treat, and what a treat it was:
The Night NurseLuke Cage, Claire Temple/Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Mariah Dillard, Matt Murdock, Soledad Temple
Picks up right where season one left off, and hits the ground running. This is Claire not becoming a hero - she holds that title already, despite lacking the superpowers of every other hero in her orbit - but finding her place in the pantheon. The bond between mother and daughter, the cementing of friendships with Misty and Matt, and the honest, earnest, beautiful connection with Luke... they're all here, but nothing more front and center than Claire herself. Everything I ever wanted in a Claire Temple fic.
And as imitates life, I wrote the same character in the same fandom.
We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting ForLuke Cage, Jessica Jones, Claire Temple, Misty Knight, Jessica Jones, Trish Walker, Christine Palmer, Soledad
My recip requested both of these shows separately, and specifically requested case fic for Claire and Misty. In the end, my brain would not do any of those things. But I loved letting Claire revisit some ladies of the Netflix Marvelverse and connect anew with others (Christine! I love Christine.), and had a blast exploring what, and who, shaped Claire into the person she is today.
That's all, folks. Until next time.
