A few things, since it's been forever:
- Current fandom happy places have been found in both extremely likely (Chuck) and highly unlikely (Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Smallville, for chrissakes) places. On the likely front, Chuck's would-be finale was so chock-full of win that I couldn't stop squeeing for hours. I know that Shaw hasn't been a hit for a lot of folks, but I absolutely love the way they handled his arc - that he wasn't the bad guy from the get go, that he had absolute, unwavering faith in the cause, and that the cause failed him so completely. And the sheer gloriousness that is the Casey/Morgan/Awesome trio has just stolen my heart. As far as the unlikely goes, there are no words to properly explain how Spartacus has taken me by surprise, but it's gone from bloody, skin-baring escapism to compelling, completely valid storytelling. Though there's still lots of bleeding and baring. It goes by many names, though "The Penis Show" and "Spartacus: Blood and Schlong" are favorites. And where Smallville is concerned... I know I swore that they'd never suck me in again, but come on. They made my OTP canon. That has never happened to me before. I'm used to being the girl who loves UC pairings (when I bother to ship at all, of late). That TPTB got their act together and cashed in on the crazy chemistry Allison Mack and Justin Hartley ooze from every friggin pore when they're onscreen together was just too magnetic a pull to resist. I mean, the show still blows, but Chlollie!
- Supernatural on the other hand, has been a mixed bag. This last stretch of episodes, starting with "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," seemed to be looking up in a big way, but a single line ruined the entire last one for me. Compounded by the show's history of genderfail... Of course, if I'd known beforehand that the ep was called "99 Problems," I would've been prepared going in.
- Alexander Siddig has joined the cast of Primeval. Yes, that deserved its own bullet.
- The fiasco that was Comic-Con Hotel Day didn't hit us nearly as badly as it could have. We scored a decent hotel a mile away, so travel on foot is still a valid means of transportation. Turns out martinigrl can't get in until Friday evening, so it's just darkmuse_ic and I (with appearances by kalenodonnell on Wednesday and Thursday. We're all praying that a Chuck panel (in theory) won't be on the schedule until Saturday.
- In related con updates, I'll be hitting C2E2 next weekend. News of the BPAL con exclusives has hit the interwebs, and I imagine there are throngs of people in search of faeries. Lab-inclined f-list, if you need a pickup, drop me an email or ping me on IM.
- I hooked mjules on Ari Hest, and got an autographed poster for my trouble. Jules continues to be the most awesome thing ever.
- I may or may not be infatuated with Sam Worthington.
- That said, I won't be seeing Clash of the Titans. Infatuation aside, the original is my favorite bad movie ever, and the remake looks far too SRS BZNS for them not to have ruined it completely. (I did, however, watch Rogue, which was a beautifully-shot Aussie flick... about a killer crocodile. I had to suffer through Michael Vartan for entirely too little Sam, but Radha Mitchell! Radha Mitchell being awesome! Attention, Sam Worthington: keep making movies with awesome, underappreciated actresses I love - see Mitchell, Zoe Saldana, Alexa Davalos, Abbie Cornish - and you will have a fan for life.)
- I'm writing.
