Adventure // shinee: ot5, jongyu, 2min // pg-13 // crack, birthday // The members end up on the 'Daybreak Canoeing Nature Adventure' on Taemin's birthday. Various things ensue.
-
At last, Taemin thought when he looked at the calendar hanging in the living room of the dorm, a week before his birthday. There was nothing to measure how much pent up excitement he was feeling because he was finally turning eighteen and he knew his hyungs were going to do something amazing for him. So when Taemin wakes up on the big day and sees that nothing has changed, he is thoroughly upset. He is supposed to get up feeling like the biggest weight has been lifted off his shoulders, run out into the hallway screaming ‘it’s my birthday, biyotches. Bring out the gifts,’ while being attacked by balloons and confetti and hot Australian girls in bikinis as his band mates feed him cake on a palm leaf. That, though, is in another world. Another world that Lee Taemin doesn’t live in, sadly.
Here’s what really happens. Taemin darts out of bed at approximately 6:37 and as he groans, his right hand moves to scratch the back of his head, lazily. He doesn’t remember if he set his alarm that early or he if he just forgot to turn it off last night but either way he isn’t getting back to sleep now. Sitting up with a sigh, Taemin notices that it’s oddly dark in his room but perhaps his vision hasn’t had enough time to adapt and the closed curtains aren’t making things any better. It’s not totally quiet because he hears the television on the other side of the closed door. What he doesn’t hear, though, is the sound of other people as he notices that he’s alone.
“If they left me here alone, I will go on a rampage.” Taemin loosely threatens to no one, pouting as he swings his legs off his bed, almost tripping while he tries to stand, before stalking out into the main room. He crouches in the hallway, arms spread out like an eagle as he tip toes down the stretch like a ninja. He doesn’t know why; He just feels like it. It’s his birthday and he can do whatever he wants. That’s his excuse anyway.
He makes it to the clearing and yeah, nothing is different. Kibum is lounging on the couch, hand propping up his head as he looks generally upset at the world. Taemin thinks his expression coupled with the fact that he’s like half bald looks awkward but he doesn’t speak out. Minho is sitting on the floor, foot propped up by a throw pillow. The birthday boy eyes the cast before he shrugs and Jinki comes into his vision, crawling around probably looking for something but Taemin doesn’t know for sure and Taemin doesn’t want to ask. Lastly, Jonghyun is…well, Jonghyun is nowhere to be seen and he is more than certain the elder will poof out of thin air like a magical fluffy fairy unicorn sooner or later.
Taemin leans against the wall, out of sight and he watches his band mates laze about, wondering if they even remember if it’s his birthday. A pair of arms snake around his waist from behind and a chin rests itself on his shoulder. At first his body tenses but then he relaxes into the hold when his nose catches the familiar musky scent and his back vibrates when the person behind him chuckles.
“Kibum, I got him get the rope!” Jonghyun yells, and he tightens his grip so that Taemin can’t escape. The latter doesn’t struggle, but he does want to tell Jonghyun that, no, he isn’t drowning or choking so he can lighten up on the chest cavity pressure. He doesn’t have the time though because Kibum is turning around, eyes burning with…determination? The third eldest whips out the desired item and tosses it to Jonghyun, who somehow catches it in his mouth before effectively tying up Taemin in less than twenty seconds.
What is this? A bad western movie?
“What are you guys doing? You can’t do this!” Taemin yells but he doesn’t struggle. There’s no point, he’s already bound and Jonghyun is holding the knot so it doesn’t come undone.
“And why can’t we?” His head snaps to where Limpy was just sitting only to find out that Minho has moved and is now sitting on the arm rest of the couch and why in the hell does it seem like his leg is healed because he really shouldn’t be moving that fast.
Taemin pouts and attempts to cross his arms over his chest only to give up and sigh. “Today’s my birthday.” He says seriously, as if them doing this to him is taboo or something.
The response he receives is a collective ‘so?’
-
In the span of twenty minutes, Taemin is thrown into a car - who knows where it came from - taken to a place that resembles the bird exhibit at the zoo, is tossed on the ground, and then released. There are about ten people surrounding him. Apparently they haven’t heard of personal space because soon he’s being stuffed into a life jacket alongside his members and a few other strange people. His vision darts around the small clearing in the forest and his eyes come to rest on a lake. Oh hell no.
“Hello everyone and welcome to the ‘Daybreak Canoeing Nature Adventure’. Those of us at the nature park would like to thank you for coming to canoe on this lovely day.” Oh HELL no. “Please split up into groups of two. If there is an uneven amount of people we’ll have a group of three.” Taemin stares wide-eyed and terrified at the old woman speaking on a platform. Can people her age still paddle a canoe? She looks to be around sixty. Now that he thinks about, she sort of reminds him of his aunt, or worse, his grand-
“I call partners with my son!” Kibum shouts, rushing to Taemin’s side and nearly ripping his arm off as he clings to the younger. The pain shooting through him is ignored when Taemin notices Jinki slide over to Minho’s side and Jonghyun’s eye twitch while glancing at them.
“But I wanted to be with Jinki~!”
“Well then you should have put your grabbing skills to use.”
“What are you even doing here Minho? Go be a cripple somewhere else.” Jonghyun smiles when Minho growls, deciding not to answer to that and Taemin wonders if he can start convincing fans that he’s more mature than the second eldest. Then again, it’s Jonghyun being questioned.
The old lady is tired of their bickering so she puts them all in one canoe. Jinki immediately snags the middle seat under the logic that he’s the leader and is exempt from paddling. A paddle is forced into his hands nonetheless and as he whines, Taemin sees something move in his peripheral vision.
“Holy sh-SPIDER!!” Taemin yells and all but runs meters away. Kibum turns to him with a confused face before his eyes follow where Taemin is pointing and the latter can tell that Kibum is just barely biting back a shriek. The spider (‘it’s like the size of a huge rock, I’m telling you.’) jumps and scurries quickly across the dirt walk. To their rescue is one of the strangers who happens to be walking past them. Kibum sighs happily and goes back into the line they were standing in for canoes. He looks back at Taemin who is frozen in place.
“Let’s go Taemin.”Said boy shakes his head, claiming that nothing - not even scissors to do something about these girlish extensions - will get him to go over there. Kibum assures him the spider is dead but Taemin is not moving. Nope. Not ever. He’s ranting about how he could die or the spirit of the spider could attack his legs and give him some kind of tropical disease that he can only cure by traveling to a cold mountain, finding a bright gold flower and crush its leaves into a wet mush that he then has to eat.
He is not. Going. Over. There.
“If you’re worried about a little spider, there are much more and a lot worse things out on the water.” The old lady pipes up as she watches the argument between the two boys.
Taemin’s jaw drops and his world stops for a second. “I need to get out of here.”
-
After five minutes of protest, Kibum brings out the rope again, leaving Taemin no choice by to get in the canoe. Because he’s smaller, he sits in the front, Kibum behind him. Just seconds after they push out into the water, Taemin looks down and on the side of the canoe what does he see? A spider. A tiny one, yes, but a spider nonetheless. He then proceeds to flail, bringing his paddle out of the water to smack at the pest but the darn thing just won’t die. It’s like it’s hyped up on the immortality elixir you only see in fairy tales.
Kibum raises an eyebrow at the sight in front of him, and smacks Taemin with his paddle leaving a very noticeable wet mark on his back. He leans forward a bit. The others are a lot farther in the water than they are and Kibum scowls. “Taemin, my sweet sweet child. I know you’re uncomfortable but SIT THE FUCK DOWN BEFORE YOU FUCKING CAPSIZE THE BOAT!” He yells before the younger turns around to look at him with wet eyes. “Aw, baby, I’m sorry. I’ll bake you cookies when we get home. Just for you.”
-
Up ahead, Jinki sadly paddles alongside Jonghyun and Minho. The two won’t shut up and he’s starting to think that this idea wasn’t the greatest because it was supposed to create laughter and smiles, not headaches and fighting. This is what he gets for trying to relax before their real day starts with their afternoon schedules. He groans when the two begin tugging on his shirt, rocking the canoe so much that when Jonghyun pulls from in front of him with a ‘he’s mine, dammit’, the canoe tips over, sending them into the cold, brown water.
“Well, this is great.” Jinki hears Minho dead-pan as they resurface, well, when he resurfaces. Jonghyun is holding onto the canoe side, Minho looks as if he’s about to swim back to the starting place, and Jinki is paddling along, trying to stay afloat. He opens his mouth to say something when Minho start’s swimming in the opposite direction. Good thing his cast is water-proof, Jinki thinks as he looks at Jonghyun who is smirking at him.
“I told you, you were mine. He should know how it works by now. I belong to you and Kibum and he belongs to Taemin and all of his hyungs, but never you. I get jealous easily.”
-
Kibum is still having his bi-polar fits and smacking Taemin for flinching at everything that flies past his face when he sees Minho approach them. He smiles at his band-mate who is now standing due to the shallow water.
Minho ignores his waves and turns his gaze on Taemin. He looks angry, and sore, and tired because it’s only 8 freaking o’clock in the morning and it seems like he’s going to strangle Kibum is he hits him with that wet paddle one. more. time. “I see he changed targets…and tactics. He was molesting Jinki this morning while Jonghyun was creeping around to see when you would wake up. Now he’s beating people. We’re all pretty sure he’s lost it but we don’t know if he’s PMS-ing or if he’s just pissed about his lack of hair.” Minho explains, totally ignoring Kibum’s presence as he chats with Taemin who is still freaking out about the beetle crawling up his leg. He knew he should have put on pants instead of shorts.
“Didn’t I tell you to calm down?!” Kibum screeches and as he lifts his paddle once more but before he can hit Taemin, said boy leaps at him, knocking over the canoe and pushing Kibum into the water.
“The cookies are not worth the pain!” Minho has the urge to facepalm but doesn’t because 1) he’s wet and who knows what’s in this water , and 2) Taemin is strangling Kibum.
-
They’ve been out here for three hours, Taemin is hungry, Minho can’t seem to find his shoe, Jinki is being held hostage by Jonghyun who is still trying to flip their canoe back over, and Kibum is unconscious, abandoned in the forest. All of the random strangers have left and they’re all - except Kibum - pretty sure that they’re going to be late to their schedules. Not to mention that they didn’t tell their manager their plans and the man is now tearing up their dorm and busy places of Seoul looking for them.
Oh, and the laundry in the dryer is done.
-
“Minho~ I want to go home.”
“We can’t go home Taemin. We haven’t found the hyungs yet.” Minho comforts the other, hand on his back, rubbing circles as they both sigh. Forty more minutes has passed, Key is still knocked out - probably calming down from his psycho fit earlier - and Taemin is about to freak out also.
He knows he should have escaped when he had the chance.
-
“Jonghyun…J-Jonghyun. No. No. Stop it. We need to find the others. They’re probably worried and looking for us and- Jonghyun, we have schedules.” With every step that Jinki takes back, Jonghyun takes a step forward until Jinki is trapped against a tree. He briefly wonders that this scene is cliché but then Jonghyun caresses his cheek and he gets dangerously close and he feels warmth brushing against his lips.
“They can wait.” Eyes close, Jinki flails, and soon Jonghyun is stepping back, cheek turning a bright red. The leader screams and runs downstream, canoe long forgotten and on its way to the lost city of Atlantis.
As Jinki’s figure becomes increasingly smaller, Jonghyun feels a fire light within him and he lets out a scream of his own. His more angry than Jinki’s terrified one.
-
Taemin and Minho jump when they hear the first scream and glance at each other worriedly. They could identify that voice anywhere. All they could think was that either Jonghyun is drowning; Jinki has thought that he saw something dangerous and freaked, or was almost raped in a forest against a tree by someone he knows like the back of his hand.
It is probably the second option. It is Jinki being talked about.
Then the second scream reaches their ears and they pale just as Kibum had minutes ago, still unconscious.
“Hyung~ I want to go home.” Taemin says near tears but Minho can only hug him tightly for Jinki is running in the wrong direction, Jonghyun is taking his anger out on nature, Kibum is dying, and neither Taemin or Minho know the route back home.
-
All Taemin wants is balloons, confetti, and a cake with his name on it surrounded by candles and swirly frosting and sprinkles. The hot chicks can wait another year. He just wishes he could have a normal birthday. Then again, he lives with these people.

I think I had this ready to post all day and I'm just doing it now at...midnight. Oh well, it was based off a canoeing trip I went on recently and yeah....hehe. Not really good at being funny but I tried (maybe too hard?).
Happy (late) Birthday to Taemin (^_^)
