Inside Job // Donghae x Hyukjae
alien AU // rating will vary but PG for now
In the midst of a time of destruction, Hyukjae finds himself on Earth living with a stranger. His spirit guide has left him and when he feels like he has nothing left to live for, he comes across a human who is oddly familiar.

AN 1: I got this story idea from this quote: Every time you don't follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness. -Shakti Gawain & the fic is still unbeta-ed and probably terrible. Just saying.

masterlist(it's in there somewhere):
character list:
Hyukjae curses in his native tongue, running a hand through his fiery red locks in irritation. He had lost Sungmin minutes earlier and now no matter how much he tries, he can’t find the elder male. This wouldn’t be a problem if Hyukjae knew where he was but alas he was lost, and alone, and lost.

“Why does this sort of thing always happen to me?” Hyukjae whines out loud. He ignores the humans giving him strange glances at the gibberish his language sounds like. What they think about him isn’t even important because he feels even more like a lone fish in a big pond than he did when he was saving himself.

Pouting, he pulls out the device called a cell phone out of his front jeans pocket. He’s grateful there were similar communication devices such as this on his home planet because after telling Sungmin he had no idea what a DVD player was and receiving the biggest eyebrow raise, he decided he was going to pretend to know everything Sungmin knows.

His head is bent down, black hair shielding his eyes from view; his fingers are furiously and confusedly attacking the buttons on the phone, scrolling through menu options until he happens upon the contacts list and finds Sungmin’s name amongst the list of people he doesn’t know. He presses the call button and raises his arm to bring the phone to his ear but it never makes it. He bumps into someone and the phone flies from his hand.

“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was pushing my cart.” The person walks around him to pick up the fallen item and hands it back to Hyukjae. The boy smiles and shakes his head cradling the phone in his hands.

“No, it’s okay. We both weren’t really paying attention.” He says, attention still on the phone, checking it for scratches or dents cause if Sungmin finds out he dropped it, he will drop-kick him. And to a royal alien with advanced technology and years of self-defense training, Sungmin is still a threatening human.

The stranger he just ran into doesn’t speak for a few seconds and Hyukjae doesn’t notice. He pockets the phone again and just as he’s about to bow, apologize, and be on his merry way, a familiar voice sounds a little too close to his ear.

“Hyukjae? Prince Hyukjae is that you?”

Furrowing his brows, Hyukjae spins around. Prince? No one should know who he is here, no one but his people should know who he is and that must mean….

His eyes widen once the other’s face comes into view and the recognition hits him so fast it almost leaves him dizzy.

“H-Heechul? W-What?” His confusion is cleared conveyed in his expression and his inability to form a sentence. His former tailor smiles a sad smile that doesn’t help Hyukjae understand anymore than he already knows.

He does understand though that his tailor has become accustomed to life here on earth. Was this where he disappeared to all those years ago? The question flitters around Hyukjae’s mind until the man before him chuckles, patting Hyukjae’s shoulder with affection.

“You always did think too much. It’s nice to see that hasn’t changed.” Heechul says, squeezing Hyukjae’s shoulder before letting go. “But, young master, what are you doing here? I would have never thought that angry woman you call your mother would ever let you venture here.” He says, curiosity in his eyes, and Hyukjae winces visibly.

The flinch alerts Heechul and comprehension becomes apparent. Hyukjae doesn’t need to explain the destruction.

“The prophecy came true.” It isn’t a question but Hyukjae finds himself nodding anyway.

“I’m the only survivor.”

Donghae frowns, looking into the noisy crowd of people screaming, laughing, talking about whatever and not seeing who he wants. He’s been abandoned.

He knew he shouldn’t have trusted Kyuhyun to go get them ice cream but now here he is, waiting on the bench alone and without ice cream and any clue as to where Kyuhyun went.

He probably went somewhere with Sungmin, he thinks to himself and he crosses his arms over his chest. He should have known this was going to happen; Kyuhyun and Sungmin are like glue and paper. Donghae doesn’t even know why the two aren’t dating yet.

Sighing, he picks his lonely self up from the bench, hoping to find someone he recognizes. It shouldn’t be a problem, it’s an amusement park filled with who knows how many people. The thing is, he doesn’t know where to start.

-

“Heechul, shouldn’t you be working?” Hyukjae questions, gaze shifting towards the elder man as the two walk. They have no certain direction; they’re just walking anywhere and everywhere. It’s been years and Hyukjae feels the urge to reminisce on the days when life was easier and his planet wasn’t in danger or gone.

Heechul shrugs, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “Shouldn’t you be dead? We’re both doing things we shouldn’t be doing. I’m slacking and you’re living.” It doesn’t faze Hyukjae, having lived with the man when he was younger but it does make him think of what would have happened should he have been caught. The gods could have torn him limb from limb or set him on fire or performed Chinese water torture. But then he realizes that he would have died either way and he shouldn’t think about what’s already happened.

The two walk in complete silence for a while, Heechul pushing his cart to another spot guaranteed to gain customers - something he wasn’t supposed to do - and Hyukjae blindly looking around him, trying to actually absorb his surroundings and failing. “Why’d you abandon - I mean, leave the planet?” The once prince asks, peeking at his old tailor.

Heechul chuckles dryly and shakes his head. This causes Hyukjae to frown. It’s not that he’s spoiled and is used to getting his questions answered when he wanted but if this subject doesn’t demand an explanation then he doesn’t know what does. How hard is it for Heechul to give him a sentence or two, it’s doesn’t even have to be the entire story and it could be a lie, Hyukjae just wants something out of the older man.

“Heechul, you don’t -“

“Hey! It’s Heechul hyung!” A voice shouts from somewhere to their left and although Hyukjae doesn’t readily catch the familiarity in it, his heart stirs and the beat picks up. Heechul pays the voice no mind, too busy pouring sugar into the vat to be spun.

Hyukjae feels himself become more rooted to the ground with each footstep he hears approaching before he cracks and bows quickly to Heechul. “I’m sorry Chul, I need to go.” He says, words melding together due to how fast he’s speaking. He makes to run for it when a hand grabs the back of his shirt and he curses Heechul for being stronger than him.

“You’re lost without your little human friend. You have absolutely no place to go.” Heechul smirks, pulling Hyukjae back to his side as he twirled cotton candy onto a cone. “Plus you can’t leave me alone with this freak who thinks he knows me.”

“Heechul hyung~.” Donghae chimes, coming to a stop in front of the cart. Out of the corner of his eye, Hyukjae can see Heechul roll his eyes. And then he feels a gaze on the top of his head and when he finally takes his sight of the ground his eyes meet Donghae’s.

“And it’s the pretty guy who tried to steal my sandwich.”

Hyukjae can’t even deny that his heart skipped at the odd compliment but a scowl does cross his normally neutral face. “I did not try to steal your ham sandwich. You left it on the wrong table.”

Donghae stares at him before shrugging. “It’s basically the same thing.”

And Hyukjae curses Sungmin, Heechul, and the concept of soulmates in that order

…Okay maybe he cursed Heechul first.

A really really short and really really late chapter. I only have major parts of this planned out so I hit a little tiny writers block but it's over...now I just have to worry about time to write. Ugh, life. ;~;
