Last Saturday I decided that being at home with nothing to do AND having roots staring at me AND having seen some orange looking pictures of me from the last camping trip, I should go and see if the hairdresser had time for me.
So I got my little self down to the salon that cut my hair last time 'Tres Jolie' is the name of it...surely that's a good sign, right?
30 minutes to decide that no i don't want new highlights because the problem will be the same again in a month, but no i don't want red hair either, and let's-ask-the-colourist-who-speaks-no-english, another 10 minutes of 20 colour swatches being held to my roots to try and find a match...then they nod, having agreed in Dutch as to the fate of my hair...
'I have to put red in it first'
' but i don't want red hair'
'but if i don't with that colour *points at card* it will be green'
'ah...ok'
next thing I know I am head back feeling cold liquid on my skull, chatting away to a 20 year old hairdresser....when i open my eyes and catch a glimpse of the scene in the mirror....
*thinks 'OMG i really hope she knows what she is doing....it is very VERY red'
deep breath...I can cope...I had long carot-coloured hair in my early 20s...and a perm...TOGETHER... (it did look good...really)
but of course the 'proper' colour has to be on dry hair...so out come the brush and the dryer...and as the moisture evaporates, it becomes more and more clear that my hair is as patriotic to the Dutch flag as it could ever be... a deep deep shade of orange...
'it suits you' says the colourist
'i have had my hair that colour before, but not today...today, we go brown' I say...crossing my fingers that the brown dye has indeed enough green tinge in it to make up for the red...
Stroke after stroke from the flat brush, the ammonia loaded paste wets my hair and make my scalp itch. 2/3 in the paste runs out and i keep my fingers cross that the 'new' batch will turn out the same colour.
30 minutes later, the bip from the timer tells me that revelation time has come, and the thick brown goo is washed out of my hair. OMG it's dark...very dark...much darker than my roots would ever be...
'it will be lighter when i dry it'
-yes, i know...but still...-
After drying, it is still dark, but it looks very pretty... the colourist chips in by pointing out how it highlights my blue eyes... she is right, but it also makes my skin look very washed out...note to self: go buy mascara!
Later that day I go to the Toko to buy some oil for my hair...it is soooo dry at the moment!
I come out with this, which i already used in the UK
http://www.dabur.com/EN/Products/Personal_Care/Hair_Care/Amla/ Together with my restocked brown hair shampoo/conditionner, that should keep my hair looking good...non?
So, without further ado...
