RECTIFY delivered another close-to-perfect episode!

I didn't review the previous episode, that was mostly Amantha-centric, but it was, of course, a terrific episode, with one fantastic scene between Tawney and Teddy.

Here's my review of the latest episode, if only for herself_nyc and me!

"Jesus girl" focused mostly on Tawney, while carrying on sheriff Daggett's investigation and Daniel's journey. There were so many brillant scenes in that one! The acting was just first class, just like the writing and the cinematography.

Tawney and Teddy broke my heart again at the couple counseling. Of all the couples that are having problems (Amantha/John, Janet/Ted), theirs is the most touching.

Adelaid Clemens was great and Clayne Crawford's performance was, once more, astonishing. He's making Teddy so incredibly real.

Aden young was in fine form too. That scene with Amantha, at the Thrifty Town store, when he's asking his baby sister to sign the probabtion paper...

Daniel is a frustrating guy but he also undergoes a lot of frustration and humiliations.

And Daniel finally made it on time at the probation officer's office. It was a great scene that put the viewers in Daniel's shoes for a moment, when he was waiting and checking the clock!

Small moments like that perfectly convey the idea that there's no lightness anymore in Daniel's life. I loved this shot:

Who's here for Daniel? Amantha definitely is.
And then he was called and walked a corridor that looked a lot like the one he walked in prison. He's free but paper bonds have replaced the chains he once wore.

And there was that beautiful shot of Daniel through the door, that so recalled similar shots through the window of the door in his prison cell.

And then it was quickly done, but, like Sisyphus, he would have to do it again and again.

The show loves that kind of shots and frames...doors and corridors are its things!

BTW I'm finding Aden Young much more attractive this season. I think he has lost some weight, his face is less full which brings out his bone structure, his eyes, his sensual mouth and that beautiful nose of his!

And look at those eyelashes!

I'm afraid that Daniel wasn't dreaming and that Trey was really there, in Janet's house...and might have planted something to pin George's death on him. There's a warrant to be used after all...

I loved the final scene between Daniel and Amantha, in which they talked about love and he mentioned his Jesus Girl, aka Tawney (even though he never says her name). I especially loved the way Amantha said "my brother" in response to Daniel's question: “Who will I be when they put me back together again?”. That line reading was one of the best thing Abigail Spencer had done on the show.

Did Daniel realise, as he was talking about the girl he once thought he loved because he believed she could save him, that the girl who had actually been spending years trying to save him was just there, on the floor? BTW her position was lovely!

Probably not, but since Daniel might have been probably in trouble again, Amantha was there for him...again! Loving and supportive in a way she hadn't been since the plea deal.

This episode was a turning point in the Tawney/Teddy relationship, they might as well be over as on the verge of going back together. Tawney realised a few things about Daniel (and the way she talked about him when being questioned by Daggett was charming) and about the man to whom she's married and whom she might have never really known until now. I liked that she relied on Teddy and shared stuff with him. They behaved as partners before and after the interview at the sherriff's office. OK I'm totally shipping them now!

The ride ended in a thrilling way, with Tawney finally breaking down, and Teddy being hesitant, afraid to do the wrong thing.

Clayne Crawford was amazing there. Teddy was so hesitant at first...and then gave in and became the rock she needed. When Tawney reached out, putting her hand on his, without looking at him, it was a great moment.

Daniel is a broken man, but these two are bruised people:

She finally let go, sighed and let him comfort her in his arms but that was nothing like the Sweet Julie's surrender Teddy told Jared about.

Was it a farewell kissing or an attempt to rekindle a bond they once had? Or maybe something new, moving on through a rediscovering...or just seeking some familiar comfort from a familiar body. Did Tawney suddenly realise that Teddy was there for her?

Anyway, I want them to make it work!

Teddy finally pulled out. The camera work was fantastic. The scene started with her feelings, the camera focusing on Tawney with Teddy fuzzy in the background, and ended up the opposite way as Twaney was leaving:

A fine example of show-not-tell!

The emotional turmoil, the uncertainty, the insecurity, the fear of being forsaken, the impossible hope to be loved ...

Of course the final scene was about Daniel, by the swimming pool, about to finish his painting it...but eventually changing his mind, another turning point for someone who's basically been going through the motion!

When Daniel tossed the can of paint, it provided both character development (an angry Daniel could become less passive) and brillant visual:

The white paint ran down echoed Daniel's tear running on his cheek...

...but it also recalled the semen on Hannah's underwear that Carl mentioned to Trey earlier.
