Connected shows

That's it, I'm all caught up with my tv shows and ready to watch the final episode of Boardwalk Empire on Monday.

Most of the main characters are dead now, minus Nucky himself, Gillian, Eli and Margaret...and of course Al Capone, Lanski and Luciano. The show offered a fitting send off to Van Alden, and a beautiful one to Chalky. Mickey Doyle died with a bullet in that same throat that provided so many giggles.

I wasn't a big fan of the flashbacks this season, mostly because I am not that interested in Nucky himself and they seemed quite redundant adding little to what we already knew, but I have to admit that the young selves of our characters were very well cast. Young Nucky and Eli were perfect and young Gillian is spot on too.
The first season of The Knick ended beautifully and that is definitely a show that I will follow next year. It isn't the best written show ever but the direction is amazing and Clive Owen didn't disappoint.
Oh and the actress who plays Mabel in Boardwalk Empire played Eleanor in The Knick with a similar storyline!

Add the fact that Eleonor has been institutionalized and her teeth have been pulled off by the psychiatrist who is "treating her" and it's another disturbing connection to BE, paralleling Gillian's own tragic storyline in the asylum.

I did enjoy the second episode of The Affair, and was amused this time when McNulty Noah and Helen went to the ranch and it was revealed that Alison and Cole's last name was...Lockhart! Not because of Diane from The Good Wife, but because of E.R in which Maura Tierney played...Abby Lockhart!

Could tv writers be a bit more creative when it comes to the characters' first and last name?

As for The Good Wife, I didn't find the last episode that well done.

First off, I'm so fed up of Kalinda's bedroom scenes. Done that, seen that so many times already. It's boring. But apparently there isn't much storyline that they can write for her after the mess that was the husband one, and now that Will is dead, and given that Margulies refuses that Alicia and Kalinda become friends again. Carey and Kalinda just can't be the central romantic couple of the show because if anyone has an important romance or romantic troubles on screen it must be Alicia. Kalinda and Alicia never share a scene together and many viewers speculate about the fact that Juliana Margulies can't stand Archie Penjabi. It isn't surprising that Penjabi is leaving the show at the end of this season...

Secondly, showing Elsbeth's inner world wasn't a great idea in my opinion -- too cartoonish and too on-the-nose, it made the quirky character that she is much less mysterious and intereting --, and of course it ended with Elsbeth and Alicia having to team up so none of them would lose, but I liked how ruthless Alicia was, using Elsbeth's weakness, just like she did with Will when she dressed up with the outfit that would surely distract him, instead of just relying on her lawyer's skills. Alicia was a sort of saint to begin with but has become such a cold bitch.

A reviewer on the AV Club mentioned how Will's presence and his relationships with Alicia, Diane and Kalinda brought a warmth that is lacking now, and I completely agree.
Finn Polmar is cute and I don't dislike his flirting scenes with Alicia, but so far he doesn't bring out the hidden warmth in Alicia, and he doesn't interact with other regular characters.

I so miss Will and Diane together!

As expected, FX cancelled The Bridge -- boooo -- but released a teaser for the sixth and final season of Justified !!!

It's all about the hat, and nobody wears it like Raylan Givens.

the affair, boardwalk empire, the knick, justified, the good wife
