After the shoes...the hats!
I'm known to be a hat lover.
I love a man in a hat (especially one Raylan Givens), and I wish that nowadays men would wear hats as they used to before the 60's. I often wear hats myself, more in Winter than in Summer though. People say that I do have a "tête à chapeau" and I guess that sometimes I look like the walking cliché of a Parisian. I'm lucky to live in a city wherein wearing a hat isn't unusual.
I will probably buy a new hat at the sales and will let you know if it happens.
Also, I realised that most of my favourite tv shows have people in hats. Deadwood of course, but also Mad Men (well, in the first seasons)*, and Justified...and let's not forget Heisenberg's hat in Breaking Bad!
Copper isn't a favourite, but it's still a great show to have a hat orgy!
Speaking of Copper, the second episode of this second season was better than the premiere. It was grittier too with a heartbreaking final scene.
I guess I like my Kevin all broken and giving himself a fix of opiate...
But the thing is, Copper is a better show when it is depressing, and beside the serial killer plot and the haze of dope that shrouded the episode, the Corcorans sex scene was quite sad and unsexy (Kevin fucking his wife recalled the masturbation scene in Mulholland Drive!). But we didn't need to see the contrast with the Freemans marital bliss to notice that Ellen and Kevin just don't work.
Frederick Douglas made an impression on Sarah...which is totally understable since he was played by Eamonn Walker! No wonder she was horny afterwards.
So depressing is the right tone for Copper, otherwise the show lacks any originality and you begin to see all the flaws.
I still have quibbles about some too modern-sounding stuff, especially concerning the Freeman's storyline, but the train wreck that is the Elizabeth haverford/Morehouse pairing finally shows a certain appeal, and I hope the Maguire storyline will pay off eventually.
*ETA: And Boardwalk Empire! And of course Caprica which wasn't a period show, and yet had some retro fashion. BTW Eric Stoltz didn't wear hat as often as Esai Morales on Caprica, but apparently he's often in a hat when directing.
