I'm ....locked too

I've just watched "A Scandal in Belgravia" ...

I could quibble and point that that a few things don't work that well when you begin to really think about them, but I loved it so I will focus on the good only. The episode was fun -- the comdey way they solved the tensed pool cliffhanger from last year set the tone (and the choice of "Staying Alive" was of course perfect, notwithstanding the effect of Moriarty having a disco ringtone)-- but it was also rather moving to see the Holmes boys care, no matter what they say about sentiments. I just adore the Sherlock/Mycroft relationship.

Moffat came up with new cool ideas while keeping what made the upadted Sherlock unique, and he threw in the HAT as the cherry on the top. Yeah again with the funny nods to the original material (from The adventures of Sherlock Holmes or from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes), through the titles John  gives to his blog entries:  "The Speckled Blonde" calling back to "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" or "The Geek Interpreter" to "The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter".

The visuals were stunning...and I love, love Martin Freeman as Watson !!!

I continue to enjoy the fact that John is a blogger (link to his blog here) and the idea of Sherlock becoming an Internet phenomenon was neat. Plus kinda meta. Hee!

And the scene in the palace was priceless (the lines especially!), and before that Sherlock's deduction about the place they would go, thanks to the three dogs' hairs!

Sherlock has never been more human than in this episode. He is qite capable of love, it's there before our eyes to see, in the way he interacted not only with John (there's such an intimacy, an easiness between them now) but also with his brother, with Mrs Hudson, with Molly even, and of course with Irene Adler. I am not a big fan of the Irene Adler storyline (never was) but I guess that every story must have a woman indeed, and she is The Woman in this one. I liked the pun on her being a dominatrix (since she aims at beating Sherlock!).

I enjoyed the metaness of her scene with John when she stated that Watson and Holmes really are a couple and pointed out the parallel between John and her: his being not gay and yet sorta being Sherlock's loving spouse; her being a lesbian and yet in love with Sherlock Holmes and having fantasy about him. I really liked that.

I think that Sherlock was touched, moved by Adler eventually (his saving her was less about showing her being saved by a knight in shining armour than about showing that he would bother and take the time and the risk to rescue her, as she's part of "his people" now) and above all, was troubled that a woman like her was in love with him, but I wouldn't bet on Irene if he had to choose between saving her and saving John! Sherlock/John is the true romance, Adler was just a way for Sherlock to explore new forbidden stuff...a maîtresse sort of ;- ).

To tell the truth I think I prefer "A Study in Pink" but this was a good episode too.

I can't wait for The Hound next week !!!!
