Season 3 episode 11 Wow!!!
Nothing really surprised me in the turn of events but it was well done, like some implacable machine.
The Stringer vs Avon thing was predictable since the end of season 1 (wasn't it Poot who told D'Angelo that in chess game the Queen reminded him of Stringer?), and it was obvious for a few episodes now that wannabe-developer Stringer Bell was going to bite the dust, but that penultimate episode before the season finale was still powerful.
The cold open was perfect (Ah whistling Omar is always a treat) and I like how the tension was built as both Avon and Stringer were getting ready to strike.
The one thing I didn't expect was the Stringer/Colvin meeting in the cemetery.
The show was bold to get rid of such a character like Bell. Stringer has always been more compelling and charismatic than Avon, so killing him off now might undermine the series. On the other hand, that storyline seemed over; there are new players and new games. Yeah Stringer's death made sense. The show had to move on...just like McNulty!
I enjoyed how the death happened, I mean the idea/visual of Stringer being trapped in the building with no exit no matter how desperately he tried to escape. I liked that precisely because feeling trapped in a game, Barksdale's game, he didn't want anymore, has been exactly his problem for a while.
I also love how Stringer's downfall finally sort of echoes Roland's (which I didn't see come), except that Roland knew he was done as a cop and accepted it. Stringer still thought that money and "parler" could get save him.
PS: Rawls being gay sooooo didn't surprise me.
Roll on episode 12!
