I won't review the season finale of True Blood because I don't have many nice things to say about it (apart from Terry is adorable and Eric looked hot covered in clay)so it's probably better to remain quiet.

Just saw Mad Men's "Summer Man" and enjoyed it, even though it wasn't as good as the previous episode.

Poor Joan. Her scenes rang so true. For a couple of seasons Joan has become a kind of tragic character while she seemed rather happy with what she had in the first season. Despite her attitude in front of the guys or with Peggy in the elevator, she is hurting, knowing that all that she has is a lousy husband who raped her in Don's office once -- so Joeys' words cut to the chest-- and a power at work that is actually quite small. She used to rely on the kind of power women used before feminism and the struggle for equal rights: sex-appeal, cunning, motherly tone, in other words the old female ways, but now she's forced to see Peggy Olson getting a new power: bigger, more direct, more effective. They represent two generations which echoes what Bethany told Don actually.

Peggy does have or will get everything Joan never had and never will get, things she wasn't even supposed to want...except that we know she kinda did since that episode in which she was asked to help out with the creative process...until she was thanked and had to go back to her secretary position. No matter how important Joan is-- and Peggy was right, Joan is very important in the office --she can't expect any kind of progress, she can't escape from being "a Joan". She is not satisfied (it was the perfect episode to hear "Satisfaction"!), she is resigned.

Two of my favourite scenes were about Don and Betty. It was two short moments that showed so much without saying anything (a good break for an episode with a voice-over): the end of the car scene in which a drunk Betty was so childish, especially the way she held her face on her hand against the window, and I loved the last swimming-pool scene in which Don got the fire back and crowled faster and faster, competing with the swimmer next to him. He won but the new generation could go on for another length while Don stopped.
