About seven years ago I left my job at a major computer company to give myself more time for writing. I remember the first day I was "free to write" (unemployed). I woke at my usual seven a.m., showered, had coffee, and sat at my desk in our condominium bedroom at exactly 8:30, the time when I'd usually start work at my former 9-to-5 job. I had this vague idea that I was going to write for the whole day.
Good luck with that.
Got part-time jobs to pay the bills, wrote a lot, in big chunks of time. And then when my first kid came along, being a full-time writer shared time with being a full-time mom.
Now it's down to ten minute tales.
