Hello all, I'm finally back in Germany after a short 18-day Christmas vacation in Italy with Eugenio... I'm happy and sad to be back at the same time. In Italy, I had such a fun time, both in Verona and in Eugenio's house on the mountains in a small town 40 kilometers from Vicenza called Conco. I stayed there in the mountains for about 5 days and celebrated New Year's there with Eugenio and his friends. I even ate the traditional Italian New Year's Eve dinner of a special kind of sausage and lentils... delicious! I remember 2 and a half years ago, the first time I was in Europe for just over a week, and our tour bus was driving through the Alps. I remember seeing all the little mountain villages and thinking to myself, "I would love to go in one of those villages, meet the people who live there, go to the tiny little bars, and really experience life there the way the native people do!" And that's exactly what I did.
Every time I go to Italy, I love it more. I don't know what the future holds for me, but I can definitely see myself sometime, somehow, some way ending up in northern Italy, speaking Italian fluently, learning how to ski, and taking day trips to Slovenia, Switzerland, or Austria. Maybe I could be an English teacher there...
And now I'm back in Germany, back to my old routine of going to classes, hanging out with my dormmates, trying to convince the busy German students that instead of always studying so much they should hang out with me in order to relieve some boredom/loneliness... I really like being here in Tübingen, but as you know from some previous entries, I sometimes don't have the best times here. On the other hand, there has never been a moment in Italy that I regret... not in Florence in July, not during my visits to Eugenio. Maybe it's just that the Germans are way too serious and independent all the time, whereas the Italians love to live life and are always surrounded by people.
In any case, as a New Year's commitment (not a resolution, because I always break those), I am going to work a lot harder until the end of the semester, and even start those two research projects that I promised my scholarship givers and my school that I was going to do but now don't seem too appealing...
So wish me luck, and look for another update soon. Ciao!
