Working Hard Thoughts: Entrepreneurship

Dec 15, 2015 17:16

I thought I got most of my thoughts about working hard out of my system when I wrote a book on working hard, yet I'm still thinking about it.

I value hard work, so I want to epitomize working hard. So I ask myself do I work hard?

I work a full time job, plus I run my own business. So I hope that means I work hard. I don't count how many hours a week I work on my business as it's hard to tell. After all, often during downtimes at work or even during uptimes at work, I do business related stuff. I do sleep about 8 hours a night, as I think I perform better with rest, so I hope that doesn't mean I'm slacking.

I try to use every available moment to work on my business in some way.

Still, others (especially entrepreneurs) may work 16-18 hour days. I jog, eat, and and run non-business related errands. Maybe I don't work as many hours as some entrepreneurs, but hopefully I do work harder than most people.

Jim Rohn argued it's more important to "work hard on yourself" than to "work hard on your job." In other words, he valued character development first and foremost. So I would like to think I lead the pack for character development. Even if others may put in more hours, I hope I work the hardest on the most important thing: character development.

What good is it if you work 18 hours a day, but don't develop your character?
