Most of the user base don’t seem to have a clue where they want to move too now, I’ve seen the most references to MySpace actually, although I presume that’s mostly people joking? :P Must admit I don’t hate the thought of this giving fandom the final push to move away from tumblr, but nobody seems to have much of an idea of where they want to go

And what’s the difference between a paid and a premium account do you know? Honestly I’m a little bit mean about the whole thing because some kind anon (never did find out who!) brought me a permenant account on LJ years ago, and I have rather gotten in the habit since then of taking all the extra perks for granted. It sounds shallow, but part of the reason I was never fully onboard with switching platforms is that I find it so limiting only being allowed a certain number of icons and subscriptions on DW unless I pay for more, it feels like such a downgrade after getting used to having a permanent account on here!
I have been thinking of trying to use my DW more next year though and keeping it backed up more regularly, I’ve already been spending more time checking my DW reading list lately. Actually (and sorry to jump on you with all the questions lol) do you know if there a simple way of adjusting how your reading list is set out? I find it really distracting on there at the moment because I get these huge white spaces around the entries on my reading list, it seems to be set out really weirdly? It’s a similar thing when I’m reading threaded comments in someone’s entry, I get so much empty space around a comment thread, and I’m not sure if there’s a way to adjust the format there?

That was a great gift alright! Yes, I think it's easy to take for granted features when you have them upfront. I got a seed account at DW when they opened so I don't need to worry about payments either, although there was an extra charge when they first offered the big icon upgrade about 5 years ago.
I'm not sure if I can really answer layout questions -- I expect it depends on which layout you've chosen. I know there are various adjustments that can be made regardless but I don't recall one specifically about margins (which might account for the extra space).
One thing that happened here on LJ is that my reading view no longer shows anyone's icons, I've no idea why :(
One easy way of using DW more I think would simply to be to post from there, since you can crosspost from there to here but not vice versa. It's as simple as ticking a box at the end of the posting form once you've set it up. That way you have more reason to browse your reading list there.

I am thinking of maybe cross-posting from next year, it’s just a question of balancing whether I want comments for the same entry in two different places or not...
