Pacey/Joey
a character I’d die defending
Definitely Joey Potter, it’s utterly ridiculous how much hate she gets from overtly defensive Pacey fans. The entire failure of their relationship in season 4 is always blamed on Joey not being enough of a cheerleader for Pacey, never mind that Pacey had huge self-esteem issues thanks to his family long before he ever started dating Joey, and I can name *many* occasions when she gives Pacey long reassuring speeches about how she sees her future with him. He just wasn’t ready to hear it because of his own insecurities that had nothing to do with Joey. His speech at the prom was total projecting because HE didn’t feel like he measured up, Joey never said one word of criticism about the limo and everything else that he screwed up, yet fandom acts like he was speaking truth there, ignoring that Pacey himself later apologised and admitted that it wasn’t Joey’s fault that he felt inadequate
a character I just can’t sympathize with
Dawson in season 3 I suppose, younger me wanted to kill him after he nearly killed Pacey in the boat race, and then started crowing about how he had won!!
a character I grew to love
I must admit that I was one of the Jen haters in the beginning :blushes: I couldn’t stand her during her whole bad girl phase in season 2, but obviously she ends up becoming a really cool character later on. I felt like the show never really knew what to do her in the beginning when she was being set up as a kind of rival for Joey and they were competing over Dawson, it was only when she became best friends with Jack in season 3 that she seemed to find her footing
my anti otp
I can’t think of any relationships that I really hated. Of course season 3 was a real low point in how Dawson attempted to emotionally manipulate Joey, and I wasn’t a fan of him around her for a lot of season 4 either, but I guess my dislike of them had mellowed by the time of the college years lol. They weren’t that bad, although I did prefer them as friends, and P/J were always my romantic otp
