End Of Year Meme

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2017?

The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars, just because both shows were cancelled! I haven’t really had any year round shows to follow since then actually. Well there’s The Big Bang Theory I suppose, but otherwise all of the new dramatic shows I picked up this year have had shorter seasons

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2017?

Mindhunter, The Americans, The Defenders, Dont Trust The B-- In Apartment B, Big Little Lies, Alias Grace, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Sinner, The End Of The F**king World. And I’m just in the middle of watching The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2017? Why?

I’ve had my eye on The Crown from Netflix, as well as Lucifer on Amazon Prime, but I haven’t got round to watching either of them yet.

Also I want to try Riverdale again, I’ve watched the pilot and it didn’t really draw me in, but I keep thinking that it should be a show that really appeals to me if I give it another chance as I absolutely loved Veronica Mars and Pretty Little Liars

Which TV show impressed you least in 2017?

The Defenders I guess. I don’t have any particularly strong feelings about it, but it didn’t really hold my attention. I mostly liked it for the Matt/Jessica scenes, and then the Matt and Elektra ship, but idk I found it kind of boring to sit through on the whole.

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2018?

For upcoming shows I’m really excited for Sharp Objects on HBO with Marti Noxon and Amy Adams, and I’m also planning to check out Life Sentence with Lucy Hale on the CW. I would like to check out Marvel’s Runaways too if Hulu ever actually makes it to the U.K. (The Handmaid’s Tale aired for us over here on C4). And this is going to be the year that I finally watch True Blood, it’s been on my to-watch list for so long

Also the latest season of Black Mirror is still waiting for me when I next renew my Netflix subscription

Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2018 unless things significantly improve?

Maybe Suits, I feel like it’s lost direction ever since Mike was exposed as being a fraud, seasons 6 and 7 just feel like the show stretching things out too much. I don’t know what to make of recent speculation that the show may continue without Rachel AND Mike, who wants to watch Suits without the Harvey and Mike partnership that is the whole premise of the show?! I feel like I’ve been hanging in there ever since Jessica left, but I wish they would think about wrapping things up soon, 7 seasons is a good run and I don’t see what more the show needs to cover really. We already have Mike working alongside Harvey as a real lawyer now, surely that should have been the end of the story?

Which TV shows do you think you’ll never let go of no matter how crappy they get?

This may sound like an odd choice, but probably The Big Bang Theory actually. It’s not always very funny, it’s not even particularly good writing, but I enjoy following the characters I guess (well mostly Sheldon, Amy, and Penny anyway), and it’s not a very big commitment really. I’m more likely to get bored if a drama series goes bad and starts to drag, but 20 minute sitcom episodes are pretty easy to digest, I can’t see it ever being a show that I just can’t stand watching any more or anything. It’s an easy way of passing the time, so if there’s any show that I’m going to one day rage quit or just get bored of, it’s probably not going to be that one

Your favorite film you watched this year?

I’m not normally much of a fan of superhero movies *whispers I wasn’t even that crazy about Wonder Woman*, but I do have a soft spot for the X-Men franchise, and I really enjoyed Logan

Your favorite book read this year?

Well this is an attempt to link My Year in Books, but umm is anyone else finding that Goodreads just links you to your own year in books when you click on a friends link?...Anyways I read 28 out of 25 books this year, so I’m pretty satisfied. I think I’m going to try and set up a goal of 30 books for next year

Red Water by Kristen Mae was probably my favourite of the year, I found that one pretty dark and harrowing, and those tend to be the kind of books that I’m drawn too :P

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year

Not a big music listener :shrugs:

Your favorite TV show(s) of the year?

Big Little Lies, Alias Grace, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Good Place

Your favorite online fandom community of the year?

I don’t know, I don’t think that I am in fandom any more at all really. I’ve tried with tumblr, but it just doesn’t hold my interest. And I’ve gotten more into following links on twitter this year actually, it’s a good resource for the latest info on shows, but I find it a very isolating experience if that’s part of where fandom is these days. I suppose the discussions that we have on LJ are still favourite online community for me, I feel like I’m just too old and set in my ways to adjust to fandom as it is today

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

I feel like Alias Grace has been very under the fandom rador, but that’s a show that I’m very happy to have discovered as I absolutely loved it and can’t rave about enough

Your fandom that made an unexpected comeback this year?

The X-Files returning for one more season was a nice surprise, and everything I’ve heard so far has really got my hopes up that season 11 will go smoother than season 10 did

The most missed of your old fandoms?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer as always, the 20th anniversary made me very nostalgic. I must have a rewatch this year <3

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?

I’m most excited for the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale, and also seeing more of Mulder and Scully in The X-Files. Also I’m getting hopeful for an announcement on more Hannibal now that Bryan Fuller has more time in his hands, plus they have the rights to Clarice now I believe, so it’s really looking like we should get news on a fourth season of some kind soon
