Pretty Little Liars Star Keegan Allen: I Know Who 'A' Is ... and So Do You! "I do know who it is," Allen tells PEOPLE of the latest baddie to cyber-bully Rosewood's four leading ladies. "And what I love about who it is is that everyone knows who it is ... but it will be so shocking and surprising."
"Everyone will freak out because it's so clearly in every episode," he adds, laughing. "When it's finally revealed, you could literally go back to season 1 and knowing who it is, you can be like, 'Oh, wow. Whoa. This has been here all along, and I never noticed it,' which is, I think, brilliant."
I think that it's going to turn out to be a high school girl, in the past Spencer has commented on how A has always felt like a 'she' and, from what Keegen has said, it's most likely a major character who has been there since the beginning. Therefore it's most likely to be one of the five girls.
Firstly I don't think that it's Aria. Yeah there's ~clues~ like Mona calling her 'big A', or Aria writing the letter A in the halloween episode, but she has no real motive. Nor do I think it's particularly shady that less has happened to her, I would expect the real A to make herself just as much of a target as her friends in order to divert suspicion for one thing, Aria getting off more lightly then her friends would be too obvious if she really was A. And also, whoever is big A, clearly must have some deep-rooted psychological issues. Punishing herself just as much as the other girls would only make sense in that case.
I think that Hanna is going to turn out to be the obvious 'oh why didn't I think of that, it's all right there staring me in the face' A, remember that from the very beginning we were told that she wanted to become Allison. Our first look at present-day Hanna is at the mall with Mona trying out sunglasses and acting the part of the high fashion IT girl, and Aria is taken-aback at her friends transformation when she goes back to school for the first time in a year. And isn't that exactly what A was originally all about, taking on Alison's identity and pretending to be her?
My theory is that Hanna is going to be revealed to have some sort of split personality with Hefty Hanna, just as Mona's reasons for being A related back to being bullied and ignored as 'Loser Mona'. Mona remade her friend into a clone of Allison, and yet at the same time Allison was shown to be the most visibly uncomfortable in the flashbacks when Allison was bullying Lucas. Would it not make sense for Hanna to therefore come up with twisted punishments for herself, like having to eat all of the cupcakes with pigs on them, or having to play the part of the mean girl when she had to dance with Lucas and lead him on in order to get Ashley's money back. There's frequently been suggestions on the show of whether the girls deserve to be called out for their association with Allison and going along with her bullying, and so it would make sense for Hanna to create a persona of actually being Allison from beyond the grave in order to punish herself and her friends. (Marlene has spoken of A being one of her favourite characters, once her identity and motives for being A will finally be revealed, and I think that Hanna would have the most interesting motivations of the main four)
Hanna and her issues with Allison get the most focus when they met with the psychiatrist in season 2, she avoids Dr.Sullivan the most, before caving and going in for the one one one sessions where she talks about letting Allison control her, about both loving and hating Allison, and finally has the imagined vision of Allison smiling and facing her (not so dissimilar from Mona hallucinating Allison smiling and facing her when she was in the asylum). Just as Allison's return saw Hanna again struggling with her identity, deciding to dress and wear her hair differently to seperate herself from Allison, and calling out Mona for turning her into someone that she doesn't want to be
My final clue is that the show has suddenly very oddly began stressing how smart Hanna is, similar to how they revealed that Mona was actually a lot smarter than we first assumed when she helps Emily out in season 2 with the school system, and that was very shortly before her reveal as A. Hanna had always been portrayed as ditzy and genuinely clueless in the past when Spencer had to keep correcting her and Hanna acted confused, but now we're suddenly being told that she has been accepted into every top college because of her amazing SAT scores, and we have a flashback with Mona suggesting that Hanna has deliberately hidden how smart she is from other people. Seems like a strong hint to me that Hanna *could* be the mastermind behind it all, she's apparently supposed to have been some sort of secret genuis all along, and her many ditzy blond moments seem suspiciously well acted if we are supposed to take at face value what Mona suggests about Hanna acting less smart then she really is.
Hanna has always struggled the most with who she is and how she defines herself away from Allison, and she has changed her identity the most out of all the girls, most recently going from all pink and girly to mostly all black and a punkish style. If any of the girls are going to be revealed as A, my money's on Hanna
(Oh and I also think that Wren is very dodgy, I'm betting that he's involved somehow too!)
