Oh god, it's making me want to go back and watch FS all over again! And that show has aged very very well! Hell, put it on TV now and it still looks brand new and shiny! It's amazing!
And SG1. Oh SG1. I miss my old Stargate!! SGU is not the same!! I want my craky fun that's SG1 and Atlantis!! *cries*
Yeah, I can't be objective when it comes to Stargate. It's a show I've been watching since the movie's release in 1994, and since the first ep in 1997. And when Ben and Claudia joined the show... oh, the in-jokes! :D And as Ben mentioned at a convention about some conversations he'd had with the producers of SG1 re: Vala - "If Daniel doesn't want her, can I have her??"
I love the show. Have been watching it forever, and I still miss it. I have it all on DVD, and when I`m bored I watch an episode inbetween.
it for sure lacks at some point when it comes with the heavy character development over the years. But it`s there, you just have to take a closer look at times. I love the humor, Jack cracks me up to no ends. Great action, great characters. My favorite is Daniel (and Ben`s "Cameron Mitchell"). Evil minds say I only like him so much because Daniel has "victim" written all over him, and with this makes him my favorite "lets toss him around" toy for the vids.
Nooo idea what they are talking about *looks innocent*
you can`t compare SG-1 and Farscape, two completely different shows.
Farscape, imo, made tv history with all the effects, and esp. the awesome characters. Although I have to say, I started to really warm up with it only at the end of season 1.
Oh I was the same with season 1 Farscape, even now I find myself skipping most of the early season 1 episodes, and just watching the J/A moments on rewatch :P I don't feel like it started getting really good until Scorpuis's intro
And you're pretty into Stargate, right? I don't know whether I should give it a shot from season 1, or just start with the seasons that Ben and Claudia are in
And yeah, I'm leaning towards just watching the Ben and Claudia seasons, and then seeing how I feel about the show. I guess that I can always catch up with the rest then if I find that I do like it
The StarGate tends to be hit-or-miss. There are a lot of fun episodes, but there's also stuff that will make you *facepalm* if you think about it too much, and the emotional life of the characters isn't given much weight. If you like campy action-adventure, you might like SG-1. SGA spawned a huuuge fandom, but that's mostly due to the charming cast and intriguing premise; the actual writing was, IMO, worse than for SG-1. SGU (the one currently airing) is alternatively boring and skeevy, and full of the melodrama that the other shows avoided; I can't honestly recommend it at this time.
Now, if you're looking for a distraction over the summer, re-runs of SG-1 are a great way to waste time. (if you're sensitive to racism/sexism/colonialism/etc. the original show has less overtly offensive stuff than the follow-up shows do, IMO.)
I do remember that for a while there all of the great fan fic writers from SV switched to SGA, and there was a lot of angst and bitterness over that *g*
Hearing from people that it's not very character-drive is putting me off, as those are the type of shows I prefer. When Farscape was cancelled there was a lot of talk then about Stargate being mostly stand-alone and therefore easier for casual viewers to get into, but meh I prefer arc-driven shows, so maybe Stargate's not for me
