Shows that I’ve been watching recently

I get the impression that Dickinson is not getting as much attention as some of Apple TV’s other originals like The Morning Show and See, it doesn’t seem like many people are talking about it at all which is a shame. I found it to be such a charming and funny coming of age tale, and there were some genuinely heartbreaking moments too when it came ( Read more... )

I completely agree with you on, well, everything!

I liked the idea of Lucy and her death wish. But she was sadly undeveloped as a character. Also, to me, it seemed that by drinking her, and absorbing her personality, Dracula finally found the courage to die- but it was not dwelled upon, and the ending, though I liked the conclusion, felt oddly abrupt.

I think that Lucy was an interesting idea as someone who didn’t really care about dying, but yes it seemed like her initial meetings with Dracula were all skipped over when we jumped to three months later, and so then there just wasn’t a connection there to be drawn in by when so much of it had been rushed through anyway. Same with the lawyer played by Mark Gatiss and the guy with the crush on Lucy, it felt like none of the modern day characters were very emotionally engaging, certainly none of them had much chemistry with one another or with Dracula. Although actually I did weirdly love that little moment when Dracula tells burnt Lucy that her appearance doesn’t matter to him, but it was the delivery from the Dracula actor that I liked in that moment, it still wasn’t so much a case of the actors connecting on screen if that makes sense ( ... )

I wasn't a big fan of 'Dickinson' if I'm honest, but I'm assuming my degree in the field didn't help any (I had a hard time with the modern slang and comedy of it, lol). BUT I'm really looking forward to 'For All Mankind' on Apple+ and now I'm gonna have to check out 'Dracula'!

I can definitely appreciate why a lot of viewers might get annoyed at the modern slang taking you out of it, it was just something that really worked for me personally, I guess it’s something that you’re either going to love or hate *g*

And For All Mankind does seem like it has great reviews! At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch it or not tbh as the premise sounded a bit dull to me, but a lot of people have been raving about it and said that it gets really amazing towards the end, so I’m probably going to check that one out at some point too.

I absolutely loved Dickinson. And I must say I was reluctant and still think it was kind of medicore but For All Mankind grew on me... no it was not For All Mankind... but like I said some of the characters made it worthwhile watching. But yes, Dickinson was my favourite by a longshot. I didn't try any of the other Apple offerings. They didn't seem interesting to me.

That’s how I feel about most of Apple’s content at the moment tbh, See never interested me at all as I’m not into fantasy shows, and I’m debating at the moment whether to check out For All Mankind or The Morning Show or not. Both shows sound a bit dry to me, although I should probably watch a few episodes and see for myself I suppose!

Otherwise the only forthcoming shows they have that really interest me are the ones that are based on books, but I do wish they had a bit more variety and comedy shows to go with all of these prestige projects. Dickinson was an enjoyable watch for me partly because it was a bit lighthearted and fun at times, but some of their other shows just sound like they would be a real slog and you have to be in the right mood for them

I admit I haven't really checked out what they have coming up. I thought the premise for "For All Mankind" sounded really lame and the pilot was really really lame but then they introduced all the female characters in episodes 2 and 3 and suddenly it got a lot more interesting.

I will have to check out what else they have to offer. I haven't really found anything lately I was terribly excited about. I'm glad "Burden of Truth" is back.

And yes, I find you have to be in the right mood for a lot of things or they are a total slog. Like I finally made it through all ten seasons of Smallville. And I have so many feelings but since fandom is dead on LJ and I'm 10 years late who do I talk to? Go figure. (And of course now I need a Lex/Lana icon but where to find it...)

I would love to hear your thoughts on SV! You might be surprised by the response if you post about it, there was a pretty big fandom for it at one point, and I’m sure there will be people wanting to discuss it with you as it’s always interesting to hear what new viewers think. I keep thinking about having a rewatch of SV at some point actually, it’s just so hard finding the time to keep up with all of the new tv coming out, let alone rewatches as well XD

And yeah For All Mankind never particularly excited me either, it was only after I heard some positive responses to it that I considered that it might be worth checking a few episodes out to see what I think. None of the upcoming show descriptions for Apple Tv have been really drawing me in so far either, it’s really only the ones based on books that I’m a little curious about

The modern day ep of Dracula was rushed yes. We barely get to know this Lucy and this Jack. Enjoyed Drac having a lawyer and Agatha (Zoe?) getting to Drac. Ep 2 was eerie and neat.

It is weird how rushed it felt when they had an hour and a half which should have been plenty of time, but I don’t know if they were over ambitious maybe with the number of new characters they wanted to introduce 🤷‍♀️ It would have been better to spend more time focusing on Lucy and Zoe imo, instead at times it felt like there were a bunch of new characters on screen and I didn’t really care about any of them

And yes I absolutely loved episode 2, I can’t really decide which is my favourite out of the first or the second episode
