When I was pregnant, the mothers I know told me becoming a mom makes you a different person - but better. I think their analysis is flawed - but is a valient attempt to explain it.
Though still very new at this "mom" stuff, I find that being a mom makes you wiser cuz you've gone through stuff twice. Once for yourself - and once through the objective eyes of (a totally helpless) someone else. You watch someone else (who you'd give a limb in exchange for relieving their stuffy nose) deal with life and you re-analyze the simplest things.
So, if better means wiser, sure - being a mom makes you a "better" person. I don't think I'm better. I just have twice the life experience (as he ages), and a more objective perspective from which to find context/perspective on the world.
Mostly, being a mom makes me wanna run for public office to fix things for the kid that'll never improve in my own lifetime. Steph for alder(wo)man? Steph for MPP? Or maybe I'll just flee to the countyside... Ah the fight or flight reflex never dissipates.
