Textbook Editors Make Odd Choices

So we began the next chapter of my French textbook today, for those of you who don't know, I'm taking an intensive class that basically speeds through everything so that everyone has the same playing field going into Intermediate French.

So this chapter is about among other things countries, cities, travel... blah standard stuff. Except the two countries it chose to talk about as wonderful tourist destinations were... The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Cote d'Ivoir.

Two particularly ugly war zones.

I know French books like to go out of the way to show how multicultural the Francophone World is... but this seemed... a tad odd. Oh, and while both country descriptions mentioned wood and diamonds... neither mentioned the civil wars.
